Okay..well..my science teacher assigned us stupid projects...and we have to do a "WANTED" poster for pathogens..and I was assigned to do the pathogen, Streptococcus Mutans..and I know the disease is cavities..and thats pretty much it..

I spent the whole entire time in class trying to find good quality source to where I can find these answers to these questions on my pathogen:

Symptons of disease?

How do you get this disease?

Who gets this disease?

How severe is it?

How common is it to contract this disease?

What precautions need to be taken to prevent getting this disease?

What treatment is used to cure the disease?

I've looked at a whole bunch of websites..but I couldn't find ALL of the answers to these questions..most of the websites i've looked through only tells briefly about it..and nothing that is detailed..

so...where can I find ALL of these answers? (seperate links are fine..)..or whats a REALLY EXTREMELY good place to search about this pathogen (and make sure it actual has info on it).

thanks!

(or you could just give me the answers..but i rather do it myself?!?!)

meet my friend wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streptococcus_mutans

there are also external links at the bottom that should help.

you probably have to modify the questions a bit, becuase mutans doesn't actually cause a disease.

if you read up on it, you'll find that cavities are caused by bacteria digesting sugars in your mouth and producing acid.

it's the acid that actually makes the cavities, not the bacteria.

the CDC can be helpful. heres a link to an article they have:
http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/rr5014a1.htm

search for "mutans"

the world health organization might have more on it, but i'm not sure.
