Well, I got started trying to vexel a picture of Sarah Michelle Gellar. Yes, most of it looks really bad. So right now, all I have is the face. I'll start working on the shadows and the hair later. I need some criticism.

Try posterizing the image first, that usually helps a lot with shading. Too get the skin color to look even-toned with shading pick one main color, then adjust the brightness by 3 or 4 with each layer.

Nice job for a start though.
