Hard drives.., HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!& Options

Ok so im looking to buy another hard drive, i have an older system, so i need an IDE type. the problem is, is that i really cant find any. tiger direct really dont have anything in my price range. but newegg kinda did, i just want like a 120GB IDE HD, i dont care if its ultra. but try to keep it between 50-75 tops. any help would be cool. also if someone could explain the difference between ATA, SATA, IDE....any help is greatlyyy appreciated!

ATA and IDE are the same thing. ATA is the official name; IDE is what's often used in marketing. It's an interface for connecting hard drives to a computer system (specifically, the motherboard). Serial ATA, also known as SATA, is a newer version of ATA. Aside from the obvious changes (e.g. a different type of attachment "ribbon") and some additional features, SATA is faster than ATA. However, SATA drives are usually more expensive than ATA drives, and you can only use an SATA drive if your motherboard supports it. If your motherboard was made after 2003, there's a good chance it support SATA; older than that, and you'll want to check to make sure.

Are you looking for an internal hard drive or an external hard drive? From cheapest to most expensive, I found the following internal drives on NewEgg.com:

• Western Digital 80 GB, $55
• Maxtor 80 GB, $55
• Samsung 80 GB, $49
• Seagate 80 GB, $59

All of them should do the job. As a personal recommendation, I have several of the Samsung SpinPoint series hard drives, and all have held up well.
