ladies and gentlemen, we have our first drama of the series

Some names will live in infamy in the annals of American Idol history. Last year, it was Leroy Wells. This year: the Brittenum twins.

Terrell and Derrell descended upon the judges with full, rich, yet sweet voices. Effortlessly harmonizing with each other, creating pure magic. Unfortunately, the twins seem to have been creating a bit more than that, we have learned.

Terrell Brittenum, 28, has been in a Memphis, TN jail since January 10, 2006, on an outstanding warrant for charges related to the illegal purchase of a car. Terrell, and brother Derrell, have been accused of using another man’s identity to buy a 2005 Dodge Magnum in June.

The warrant surfaced when Derrell was pulled over on a routine stop in October 2005, and a license plate check revealed that the car was reported stolen from Georgia. At that point, Derrell was arrested. Terrell was arrested on a fugitive warrant and both posted bail.

However, the twins refused extradition to Georgia, which brought new arrest warrants.

The Commercial Appeal reported that Derrell is expected to turn himself in on charges of forgery, theft by deception and financial identity fraud – the charges Terrell faces.

So far, American Idol and FOX have refused to make any comment on the twins or their status on the show.

The twins have been in trouble with the law before. Terrell has an arrest record for traffic violation and a charge of disorderly conduct for which he paid a $50 fine. Court records show Derrell Brittenum was arrested in 1998 for theft of more than $500 and in 2000 for contempt of court and passing bad checks.
