In your code you probebly have:

.div1 {
background-color:ffffff; color:ffffff;
border:0px solid; border-color:silver;
width:300px; height:15px; overflow:auto;
position:absolute; z-index:2; left:50%; top:0%;
margin-left:70px; margin-top:820px;
visibility:visible;}

if you have the settings that are in bold in your code, for the background div, or any div for that matter it will become automatically centered.
