I want some new music so this is coming back!
Indie kids unite! ![]() So, one of the more mainstream indie bands I'm completely into right now is Sleater-Kinney. I'm sure the rest of you share my love. But yea, I'm reaaaaallllllyyyyy into them. Sure, I have been for a while, but I can't get enough of them. They're always great. Agent Sparks, another one I'm getting into is similar to Sleater-Kinney. Tilly and the Wall is great, too. I'm really happy to see more chick bands breaking out in the indie music scene. Gives me some inspiration. The Cardigans have a bit of a retro feel to them. It's refreshing. Another chick, too! ![]() The Clientele is really calm and easy. Nice for relaxing. They've been getting a lot of attention lately. Vitalic is just plain neat. Lots of electric sounds. Pretty obscure, way out from the mainstream music scene. If you've seen Lola Rennt, it's kind of similar to the music in that movie (which is also pretty cool). I've also been getting into Wolf Parade. A mix between traditional rock sounds and electronic ones. Kind of New Wave-y. Good stuff. Got any new and upcoming bands/singers that you want to share with the indie population of Createblog, or any to discuss? |

Yayyyyyyyyy Sammi! Maybe we can revive the spirit of the fallen underground thread
Despite all the hype, I really cannot stand Sleater-Kinney. Maybe I haven't given them enough of a chance, but I've tried several chance, and it still seems like there's something I'm missing because their music just doesn't do it for me. Also, The Cardigans aren't new or indie, (then again, I'm listening to TATU right now, but let's not go there) Wolf Parade is quite overrated, me thinks. I do enjoy "Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts," and "Disco Sheets" is pretty good, but I don't understand why they';re getting all the indie cred they are. Same for Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah. Not bad, but vastly overrated. Belle and Sebastian's new album is coming out soon. I downloaded half, but redlightglow closed before I got a chance to get the other half, which is unfortunate. I've really been enjoying them lately. Pavement is alright, but not one of my favorites. On that note, I need to listen to more Stephen Malkmus, because "Baby C'mon" has really grown on me. (oh, ignore the previous TATU comment, my ipod is apparently not up to playing indie music today. I've just heard Garbage and skipped past 3 James Blunt songs (great shuffling job today, too) But now we're back on track, and I'm lstening to The Rosebuds, who are probably my current favorite. Somehow, "Back to Boston" managed to climb itself up to being the top played song on my ipod, so I think it's safe to say now that it's one of my absolute favorites (which reminds me, James, what did you think of it? you have to send me the rest of the Sparklehorse album, too ![]() I retract anything I previously said about the Arctic Monkeys. They're irksome, and as James so kindly pointed out, not actually indie (I checked the UK itiunes, and sure enough they were third on the chart...which makes me wonder, why do Americans have such shitty taste?) I'm From Barcelona ("We're from Barcelona, " "Treehouse") and Love is All ("Make Out Fall Out Make Up") are great. I like The Spinto Band ("Oh Mandy"), Aberdeen City ("God is Going to Get Sick of Me"), and What Made Milwaukee Famous ("Hellodrama") pretty well also. Rogue Wave is a bit like the Shins, not as good but good in their own way which is good. The Boy Least Likely To's "Be Gentle With Me" is great, but I'm not that fond of the rest of their stuff. The Changes are great. I'm at a loss for a way to describe them, but they're good rock-ier indie stuff Also, everyone needs to download the "Raised By Wolves" EP by Voxtrot, because they're fantastic, especially "The Start of Something," (yeah, I just wrote a ton. And this is after cutting out three paragraphs) |

QUOTE(tweeak @ Jan 13 2006, 8:55 PM) Also, The Cardigans aren't new or indie, unless I missed something or they're somehow an entirely diferent band than the one I'm thinking of (just looked it up and I'm pretty sure they're not). Yeah, they're pretty old. Hahah. Doesn't matter if they're indie or not, they're still wonderful. <3333 |
