Downloaded Brushes, how to get them onto gimp |

When you download brushes how do you get them onto my program GIMP???
I tried to get them on there but it wont work..

You can't have the program open when you do that usually. You have to close it and start it up again.
 Other than that I can't particularly think of anything.
