I have no idea how to solve this problem. Our Algebra teacher said that if we can solve this problem, then we get 10 extra points on our mid term.
Let f(x) be a function defined on the positive integers such that: f(x) = x/2 if x is even f(x) = (3*x+1)/2 if x is odd |

oh i might as well give ita shot even if it feels wrong
f(x) = x/2 if x is even therefore f(x)=f(-x) -x/2=x/2 1=-1 f(x) = (3*x+1)/2 if x is odd f(x)=/=f(-x) wait is it three to the power of x of three to the power of x PLUS one?? |

QUOTE(wind&fire @ Dec 18 2005, 8:19 PM) oh i might as well give ita shot even if it feels wrong f(x) = x/2 if x is even therefore f(x)=f(-x) -x/2=x/2 1=-1 f(x) = (3*x+1)/2 if x is odd f(x)=/=f(-x) wait is it three to the power of x of three to the power of x PLUS one?? but thats if f(x) is even/odd, not if x is even/odd, right? lol its probably past the due date already.. |
