Teen kills himself after told to limit game time
Yap Wai Chung , a 16 year old boy from Petaling Jaya, Malaysia electrocuted himself after his father told him he had to cut down his online gaming time. From The Star, "Worried about his sons addiction to computer games, he lectured the teenager about it and told him to limit his computer playtime to an hour a day." "After the scolding, Wai Chung ate his dinner and continued playing computer games while his parents went off to bed." "'We rushed to the study and found Wai Chung on the floor with electrical wires around his body,' the father said at the University Malaya Medical Centre, where Wai Chung's body had been sent for a post-mortem." "His father said a note was found on his computer, asking his parents to give his beloved computer to a friend." http://thestar.com.my/news/story.as...3579&sec=nation my goodness kid ![]() |

well, i guess its possible, even if it is from the star.
and really, if thats the only thing he did.. its sort of a comfort imagine if you spent five hours with your boyfriend every day, and that was the only thing that made you happy and then your parents said "hey you can only see him for 1 minute a day" you'd probably die too. |

QUOTE(sharpandcuddly @ Dec 15 2005, 9:47 PM) well, i guess its possible, even if it is from the star. and really, if thats the only thing he did.. its sort of a comfort imagine if you spent five hours with your boyfriend every day, and that was the only thing that made you happy and then your parents said "hey you can only see him for 1 minute a day" you'd probably die too. Even if that was the case, you can't compare a natural, loving relationship to a computer game. It's things like this that bring a bad name to the gaming industry. But the truth is, gaming is like every other hobby...it should be moderated before it becomes an addiction. I can play Final Fantasy for a couple of hours and not sacrifice my real life for the game. People who blame everything on video games--obesity, bad grades, you name it, need to identify the real source of the problem. First, the parents, and second, any psychological issues the "addictee" may have. But seriously, you don't kill yourself over a game! ![]() |
