what's so special about them, aside from the name? is the quality any better than $30 ones?

Expensive Italian labels are generally not only high in fashion, but in quality. The reason why I have 3 pairs of Gucci shades is because they've lasted me for years. I can't say the same for the piece-o-shit shades at American Eagle.
