I searched and nothing came up. I wasn't sure if this belonged here, people staff please move this if you feel it belongs somewhere else.
Well this speaker came to our school on friday, discussing the columbine shootings, especially Rachel Scott. (yeah there is a point to this I promise). before she was shot she wrote an essay called "My Code of Ethics." I was curious, what rules do you live by? What are your codes of ethics? -------- Honesty: Although this is not always the case, I try to be honest with people. Not only does it allow them to trust me but it also helps them get a better understanding of who I am. Morals: I'm not sure if it's the way I was raised, but I have very high morals. Throughout the past year I compromised them, and it got me nothing but trouble. I dont drink, do drugs, smoke, cut class or participate in anything that could affect my future in a negative way. Open-minded: I've come to realize that people are different; we all have different cultures, sexual prefrences, experiences, opinions and ideas. Obviously I'm not going to agree with everyone 100% of the time, but it's only beneficial to take in what knowledge their diversity can bring to you, whether you agree with the information or not. Kindess: Yes for me it has paid to be kind. To do the little-- and the big, things that brighten peoples day. To be caring and compassionate. Whether it means sticking a cheer up note in a locker, baking brownies for someones special day, speaking to someone who seems lonely or giving a hug to someone who is crying, even if you dont know them. Everything can make a difference. And who knows, maybe the kindness will spread. Genuinity: Above all things my biggest rule is to just be myself. It may not always be the easiest thing to do, in fact usually being true to yourself is usually the hardest thing. Most people I've met are not going to matter in a few years, but the decisions I make when I am with those people will matter. being true to myself is the one way I can be almost positive of my success in life. yeah sorry that was long. |

Civility. I guess this isn't always my strong point, but I do strive for civility. Sometimes though, this is an incredible task to labor.
Responsibility. Duty and Responsibility are important to me and I despair that so many people overlook these when living their own lives. People need to be responsible for how they live, how they love and hate, as they do—though inadverdently, affect others. There are different kinds of duties that we're responsible for, but not all are spoken for or quite as obvious as the rest, and it's important to recognize them, I think. Logic and rationality. What are we if not human? To be human, is to have the ability to rationalize and think logically, among other traits. Common sense is also there for a reason. Fairness. My native name can be translated to mean "justice", and it has always been an enigma to me. Actually, my name was what lead to me to question what is fair, what is right. I try to uphold this moral code as best as I can because by doing so, I can live up to my name. Honesty. This one doesn't always come easy as the previous, but it's certainly something I live by. Loyalty. Hmm, this goes along with duty and responsibility in many ways because it's how one should responsible for others as well as one's own wellness. Persistence. Ah. Yes, I'm persistent, but not in all things, of course, or else I would come off as obnoxious. Compassion. Another trait that makes us human, why deter it from our moral code. |
