Politicians sure love to talk about violent, bloody games like Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat, and Postal. I just finished reading this one article on PC Gamer (was bored) and despite what people like Hilary Clinton and Jack Thompson have been ranting about all this time, violent and firearm-related crimes and teenage homicides have actually declined even after the release of the Playstation, and is still lower than 20 years ago when 'violent' games like "Mario Bros." were coming out.
GameRevolution has written a similar article but using the same source: http://gr.bolt.com/articles/violence/violence.htm If you don't feel like reading, the whole essay can be summarized in the three charts below, taken by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Statistics (or in other words, a good, reliable source): ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hey guys, just because YOU are not violent does not mean other people aren't either. In some cases, the violent games DID help these people along and give them ideas and develop the violent side of their minds. Now, they would have already had these ideas in their heads, but perhaps the games were the trigger they needed to follow through with it.
I agree the games don't cause violence in every single person, but I think they indirectly help with some. That doesn't mean I think we should ban them. Just saying. You guys are only using yourselves as examples, which doesn't convince anyone in the real world. |
