at my school, my friend erin and amanda, which are white, get made fun of because they hang with me and the rest of the blk kids at school. all the other white kids call them wanna-b's and the "fake blk kids". most of the white kids get mad when they hang with us. they tell her that she talks blk and that she needs to act her own race. i mean i really dont see what the big deal is. she acts like herself and she doesn't try to be something she's not. i just dont get it!

Now it shouldn't but I can at least understand where you're coming from, since my school is very diverse, and not in a racist way, but there's certain ways we don't really interact wih each other, not because of prejudice but because with so many class levels, there's a fair amount of isolation because those who don't speak English well or act "ghetto" and don't care about school will rarely see those of us who take higher level classes. Sure, we get along fine when we're just together in an activity (like band, cross country, student council , whatever) but when say for example, people feel they have to "act black" and a white girl tries to act like that, then she's basically "trying to be black." I don't think that it's so much a problem that they're hanging out with another race and should "act their own," but that when they're "acting like another race" they often make complete fools of themselves. Not because it's foolish to act that way, but that sometimes people try too hard and seem ridiculous. It's not so much that you shouldn't hang out with different races- that's good- but that you shouldn't forget what you are either. That's pretty much racism too, then. But so yeah, don't listen to them. They're being judgemental and it's horrid, but it's just sterotyping.
