i know this may sound stupid and all..but how do you use patterns in photoshop? like, how do you put them on icons, etc.?

Really, you should set your tools to default. That should clear any problem. Besides that, make sure you're not working with an image or anything - just a plain new file.
Also, you may be using too much memory to complete the operation, so close any other programs you have running while working in Photoshop. |
