hey
I know FTP stands for file transfer protocol, but what is it and why is it needed for websites? and are there any free ftp programs? |

FTP is a method of putting and getting files from a remote host (aka "server"). It's often needed for webpages because webpages are often served by a remote server, and the only way to get files to that server is via FTP.
