Sidebar?, Looking for help with sidebars in lj. Options

Hey everyone, I honestly have searched and searched for some kind of help with sidebars, be it here, or on livejournal, but I just can't seem to find anything of any use.
Could anyone either help me with this, or point me in the direction of someone who can?

Also, if anyone could help me center the image/background that would also be great, at it isn't in line with the tables.
