Sounds like he's lying. If he had a job, he'd probably still have money from his last paycheck and wouldn't need so much money to last him 3 days. And if he was really desperate for money, he wouldn't just be waiting on your family. He'd be on the move, asking several other people. He just knows your mom is more trustworthy than others, so he thinks she'll give him whatever he wants. I suggest that you tell your mother what you think and that it'll only a few days until he gets his 'paycheck'. He can survive.
