Yes, I searched.
I've been hosted at ka-boink.net and am now hosted at ill-wed.com (heather ![]() 1. Google is being vague. And the big book of resources doesn't seem to have what I'm looking for. Maybe I skipped something. But what is the basic price range for the domain name registration, and then the hosting? 2. Do you get them separately or can you get them together? 3. How long do you keep your site? Forever? Or do they expire? (ka-boink.net, where I was hosted originally, expired, and that's why I ask.) My other questions. I am really thinking about a side job selling website layouts, much like talented designers such as Heather and Roxy do. 4. How exactly do you advertise that you are selling? 5. Do you have to use paypal, or what? 6. What kinds of scripting languages do you NEED to know before people take you as credible? 7. What kinds of layouts do you consider sell-worthy and what kinds don't you? Sorry to bug you with a million bazillion questions, but I'm hugely interested in this and am hoping that one of you experienced members can help me out. Thanks! |

umm.. well here is what i know
1) I can find domain names easily for $9.95 CAD a year. Try godaddy.com and netfirms.ca 2) Whichever way you prefer, I know that right now netfirms is offering for $12.95 a month CAD, 2 Domain names, 2000MB storage, 100GB Data transfer and more. 3) You can keep the site as long as you paid on your plan. Some are monthly payments and some are yearly payments. 4) Plenty of ways, join rotations, put it in your siggy, topsites, etc. 5) Paypal is easy, but many accept major credit cards. 6) CSS, PHP, HTML are what I think are credible enough, more is always better though 7) Neat and good looking ones. Personally it depends on what sort of customer you are looking for. For example, many personal sites use images of celebrities and brush art so obviously you'd sell them layouts like that. If you are going for somethiing more business like, try going neat, easy to edit, nothing extremely extravagant |
