(You don't buy a new keyboard)
Dvorak is an alternative keyboard layout different from the normal default QWERTY. (cuz, ya know...the first letters are q,w,e,r,ty..heh) The QWERTY layout that's on your keyboard now was created when the inventor of the TYPEWRITER needed to make a typewriter keyboard layout. He had it alphabetical, but if you typed 'A' and then 'B', the hammers that hit the paper would jam together. So to prevent that, he made the QWERTY layout. The QWERTY layout was invented to prevent jams in a typewriter! Now we have computers, and we're still using QWERTY! Don't you think it's time to switch to a more efficient layout? QWERTY's layout was picked out at random. Dvorak was created by a guy who did extensive research on how people type and which letters we use the most. Here's some nice facts: - QWERTY letters were arranged randomly, as long as it didn't make the typewriter jam. Dvorak was created through a lot of research. - The home row, the row of letters you rest ur fingertips on (asdf..) are only utilized 30% of the time in QWERTY. The other 70% is used reaching for a 'y' or bending down for a 'c'. Dvorak fixes it so the home row is used 70% of the time, so you don't have to move your fingers up or down as much. - With the enhanced position of the letters, on average people are 20% faster at typing and 50% more accurate. - Typing in QWERTY causes more finger-stress injuries then Dvorak. So even though I can sooo see this as propaganda, I feel Dvorak is no doubt better than QWERTY. I converted to Dvorak, and I'm just spreading the info about it. The final obstacle, really, the main obstacle of getting Dvorak mass-used since the 1900s is because we're so used to QWERTY, we're too lazy to learn Dvorak. So it's YOUR choice if you wanna switch. But atleast I know I type faster, more accurately, and get less muscle pains since switching. So ummm...enuf of that. If you want to learn more, go to Dvorak.org (grr don't remove the link! it's not commercial! and it's a link to a better more efficient tmrw!!! but if you must. I understand [of course i understand! i used to be one! haha]) and umm...current dvorak users..ummm..high five? way ta go? *confuzzle* |
