div layers Options

sigh, div layers have foiled me yet again at skin designing

i made a super wide blog entry so that i could djust my div layer properties so that the skin works even when someone's post is too wide. and this is what it looked like after i was done -



so that's all happy. but then when i took out the super wide entry, the div layer went back to looking like this -



very annoying, and i can't fix it

why does this happen and does anyone know how i can fix it?

help would be much appreciated
