At the same time, though, Opteron-based servers are some of the fastest and most powerful on the market, and far better than anything Intel offers.
It's all about application. Some processors are better for certain tasks. I go with AMD because it's cheaper, not because of any performance boost. Of course, ultimately, I prefer the PowerPC. |

I would have to say Intel Xeon is the most widely used processor in the server market. A dual Xeon is expensive but it is worth the money in the long run, especially in the game server department and the web hosting department. Most team speaks, game servers, and hosting companies are ran off of Dual Xeons. Intel still dominates the market, no dought about it. Its on a larger demand scale than AMD or PowerPC. |
