I was flipping through Seventeen Magazine when I got to the advertising page. I found an ad for Barbizon Modeling & Acting Centers, and on a whim, I figured I would go to their site. So I went there, and they had a 'contact us' section. I went to the Barbizon Houston site, and I contacted them. I have no professional modeling/acting experience, I definetely don't have model looks, and I'm not very much into clothing or fashion. I emphasized my willingness to try new things and meet new people rather than my looks. If they call me back and I set up an interview with them, I have a very strange feeling I might get turned down because of my looks. But I don't know, though. I think it would be fun and all. What do you guys think?

I went to barbizon, and I loved barbizon. THey actually teach you a lot, and they are accosiated with model agencies, so if you are good, they will help you get a carreer. On the other hand, they will take anyone that pays. Heres the issue. It is against the law to have a modeling achool and an agency owned by the same company. Because then yuo would be teaching people who can pay to do EXACTLY what you want to do, and then no on outside could get in. But, barbizon and DMG (the agency they work with in texas) arent owned by the same company, persay. They just work directly together. So they are doing basically the same thing, but its legal. So, they bring in girls from everywhere. From the mall, from magazines, from the internet, use former models and students of the agency and barbizon grads or whatever, have them come in a teach you things, and see who has the look. They have 2 fashion shows a year, which reps from their agency come to find people, plus they tend to pop in unexpectedly from time to time as well. So you really do have a chance. When I went to barbizon, I spoke with some reps about doing plus size modeling, but theres no way in hell I'm every doing plus size (plus size is size 8 and up btw) cuz thats an insult, so I said screw it. But even if you dont want to be discovered, if you have the money, go for it. It gives you so much training, not just in being a model, but in having confidence, in how to dress, and how to look your best. It also looks great on a resume. So I say when they call you back (and they will) go for it. Its a lot of fun. |
