i broke up with my bf, did i do the right thing? Options

well to start off, i've been with this guy for about 5 months. he liked this other girl, Jane, for a long time before we went out. Then he told me that he liked me more. So we went out for awhile. Awhile ago, i asked him if he still liked her. He said no and that they were only friends.

in about a week, i'm leaving for about 3 weeks to go to china. and then he started talking about breaking up. i kept saying how i didnt want to; and he kept saying how it would be better for me, all that stuff. i'm not sure if he wanted to break up or not; cause apparently; he "loves" me.

and then i asked him if he ever missed me. i always missed him, every single day. my heart would be aching like crazy until i'm on the verge of tears whenever he's not around. and i wondered if he missed me the way i missed him.

me: do you ever miss me?
him: yeah
him: every night
me: every night..?
him: yeah; cause in the day, im usually with you
me: and when you're not?
him: i dunno; im always thinking about hw.

when he said that he thinks about hw all the time, i knew he was lying. i always see him laughing and playing basketball with his friends. and then later on, i got bored and signed onto his screenname when he was on it. right when i signed on, he kicked me off. so i told him that i had to do something. and i signed on again. and right when i sign on, i get an im from the girl he used to like:

i was pretending to be him, and that was me talking (xDTenzingxD)

so i find out that he told her that he still liked her. i got so pissed that he lied to me that i broke it off with him. i started to tell him that i hated him, and took back everything i ever said to him. i took back all the "i love you"s and "i miss you"s. i got so pissed that i said anything that came to mind.



so now i'm asking, do you think i did the right thing and broke up with him?
cause right now, im regretting it all.
