50% Opaque background for entries? Options

I wanna know how you can make the background color for entries 50% opaque so that you can still see the image in the background. I tried

but it also makes the text semi-transparent and I only want the background transparent so how do i do that?

that skin, it's just the image was made that way http://images.xangsters.com/xanga/09/2034.jpg Sorry I don't know the code to just make the blog 50% opaque. I usually see it done and it causes everything to be semi-transparent.
