wacko.gif Poor person with the female artists, however shouldnt have reposted. oh well.

I was just wondering, i've been trying to find mainly a REALLY good book to read, and always end of finding that they're all entirely the same, kinda like some movies. I'm really open to any suggestions, thought i don't really like chick lit, u know gossip girls and things.

Thanks!

Any of Thomas Hardy's fiction, so far my absolute favorite is either Far From the Madding Crowd or the Mayor of Casterbridge. The first one is about a shepherd whose dog runs his whole flock of sheep over a cliff, impoverishing him in a single night, and how he falls in love with and pursues a snooty bourgoise country girl and the 'madness' that ensues. The second one is about a man who sells his wife at a country fair and later goes on to become a town mayor then his misdeeds come back to haunt him. All of Hardy's books are great though.

For something lighter, try Jodi Picoult. My favorites from her are Plain Truth, about an Amish girl who gets pregnant out of wedlock and the baby dies shortly after its birth, and My Sister's Keeper, about a girl who was born to serve as a blood and marrow donor for her sickly older sister and seeks medical emancipation.

Also, another favorite author of mine is Judith Merkle-Riley, she is awesome if you like history, but takes a fresher viewpoint on it. I think my favorite one from her is The Serpent Garden, but A Vision of Light is also very enjoyable. If you like astrology or magick, you might read her Master of All Desires or The Oracle Glass.

For passionate, yet not brainless, 'historical fiction' (romance), try Bertrice Small's Skye O'Malley series. They are older, but set in early 1500s Ireland, England, and Middle East, so their age really doesn't matter.

Ahhh, books, I should stop now.
Enjoy.
