First, let's explore what exactly a flirt is:
flirt n 1: a seductive woman who uses her sex appeal to exploit men [syn: coquette, vamp, vamper, minx, tease, prickteaser] 2: playful behavior intended to arouse sexual interest [syn: flirting, flirtation, coquetry, dalliance, toying] v 1: talk or behave amorously, without serious intentions; "The guys always try to chat up the new secretaries"; "My husband never flirts with other women" [syn: chat up, dally, butterfly, coquet, coquette, romance, philander, mash] 2: behave carelessly or indifferently; "Play about with a young girl's affection" [syn: dally, toy, play] v. flirt·ed, flirt·ing, flirts v. intr. To make playfully romantic or sexual overtures. [/QUOTE] IMO, Hugging, play fighting, and other similar actions is not cheating. Kissing (more than a Hello/Goodbye Kiss) would be considered over the top. From a guy's perspective I've talked with several women who flirt heavily with their guy friends. Most of them do not think of it as sexual in nature and are not aroused by it. One female only realized what it could have appeared like when one of her friends accused her of being a tease because of her flirtatious ways. She had no idea before then. From a personal perspective: I've recently started dating an admitted flirt. She's an awesome gal, but acts totally different in front of her guy friends vs us just going out solo. Couple that with a long-distance relationship, a very odd situation where it's just better for the both of us right now that no one knows we're dating and imagine how flirting makes a non-flirter feel. Play-fighting to the point where they are grabbing her ass and groping her, and pulling her onto their lap in a less than just-friends kinda way. Others will massage her shoulders, turning into a sensual caress and even hold hands. All in front of her "significant other" who has to remain silent and essentially be ignored. The thing that gets me is she kept asking if I was ok. It's as if she KNEW it was pissing me off but kept doing it to see my reaction. Is it cheating? No. Would her friends behave differently if they knew the guy she was dating was right there? maybe. Is it extremely frustrating? Heck yeah. I'm not typically a jealous guy. Someone I'm dating has guy friends? Cool. Want to hang out with them? No problem. But confronted with that situation, and let's just say I was like Mount Saint Helens underneath. |
