Reasons for cheating? Options

To be honest, I never could figure out why people would cheat on their significant other. I mean, if you're going out with someone, doesn't that mean you care about them? Or why even go out with them if you're not faithful at all? Why not just break up with them and go for the other girl/guy? Anyone care to share why people cheat?

Yeah, just came to mind today -- a friend apparently can't decide whether he wants to cheat or not. And he knows that I hate cheaters. Like no other.

i think people cheat because they "get caught up in the moment". i know it sounds cliche'd, but think about it: when you get caught up in the moment of say, dancing or singing or eating, it feels good and has a rush and it's hard to get out of it.

this is coming from a girl that's never cheated.

But that's exactly what I don't understand - my friend, today again, was trying to convince me that if I were in his position, I'd do the same thing.

I could only tell him, "My friend, when I was with Eddy, after he cheated on me, I stopped trying so hard. I had crushes on other guys, but I never considered cheating. And some of them I really liked. In fact, I almost got with one of them after Eddy and I broke up. So you really don't know me. I'm loyal."

Is it just that cheaters don't have a conscience? A sense of right and wrong? How are the even able to just disregard how other people feel? I don't believe being "caught up in a moment" is worth anything; I think it's bullshit, to be quite frank.
