dump ipod.

get a player that doesn't require you to keep your files on your computer.

like iriver, or creative, or any other DAP.

You don't have to keep the music files on your hard drive. You can upload them manually to your iPod, through iTunes, and then delete them from your hard drive.

you sure about that?

doesn't itunes check if the files on the ipod are on the hard drive? and if they're not, it deletes them off the ipod? it's an antipiracy feature.

Yes, I'm sure. I used to do it on my laptop, because it only had a 20GB hard drive.

The process is simple. You load up a few files in iTunes that you want to copy, then plug in your iPod and set it to manually update. Then you copy the files in your iTunes library onto the iPod's icon, then disconnect the iPod, and finally, delete the files from your library. Repeat everytime you have new files to add to your iPod. None get deleted because you're not syncing the iPod with your computer's iTunes library.
