Genocide, How to stop them...? Options

Okay, I hope this is in the right forum, but I have been wondering,
How can a genocide be stopped?
What is a genocide? Basically for a brief definition, it is the mass murder of a certain race by another certain race.
Take the Holocaust for example. By far, I think in my opinion, was the worst genocide in the world's history, but lets not stray from the topic I was originally planning.

So how can a genocide be stopped?
Killing the leader?
Nuke them out?
Peace treaties?
Full out war?

Ideas would be nice. This was a way to see what some people might think.

In my opinion, there is no certain way to end a genocide. There might be a way that will work for one genocide, but there is no rigid choice that would work for all genocides.

So, how can all genocides be stopped if more were to ever occur?

Once the opposing force is fully commited in systematicly destroying the other race, there is no way to stop it. Kill the leader ? will cause caos and more killing. Nuke them ? Will get to many innocent people in the mix. Peace Treaties? never work . War? never the answer. The way to stop a genocide is to try and demolish the thought of one before it even begins. When racial tensions begin , we must take it upon our selves to make sure these diffrences are resolved.

Also, in my mind the Holocaust is very overated. Yes i understand 5 million people died, and i do think it is something that never should have happened. However these numbers don't even compare to the 20 million killed by Soviets in the Great Purge .Yet you never hear about this incident near as much as the Holocaust.............

I definitly agree with what you said about the holocust... there has been like a million other genocides ALL around the world and no one ever makes a big deal out of them.... I guess those people that died aren't as important....
