asphalt sea

recollections
of skidded knees
of dodgeballdeathtraps
of death
and screaming metal.;

you are a sea of blacksoot memories
that embrace the air with their
fiberglass wings and rubbersouled feet.
you swathe our earth with baby's blankets of
modern and harsh-

you are asphalt that
burns to the touch on hot summer days
blazing a trail
through dead green
(no matter how we try to paint its beauty back on
it has been starved of its air)

asphalt sea,
you steal our memories of
pedestrian content
and give us oil-consuming maws
and bellowing shrills of impatience.
