If you live in the south, two things are relevant to your everyday hiphop experience; crunk and screw. Crunk being the hype, off the wall, fight music and noise that can have you ready to take a bat to hater's head or throw some singles at a clap-infected stripper spinning down a pole. As for screw, originated by the late DJ Screw in Houston, time to intoxicate and poison your body with alcohol, marjuana and perscription cough syrup (known as gettin' "throwed") and slow your muthafuckin world down. From a quick glance at the game, chopped and screwed is nowhere near as widespread as crunk but it has left its mark in Texas (of course), New Orleans and Memphis. Swishahouse, the main base of this phenomenon, has grown, developed beefs within itself and has talent coming and going like any other label. Slim Thug is making it, now we open the door for (Who?!) Mike Jones.

These. Beats. Go. Hard. On a scale of one to ten, these beats easily get a 9. No, they don't have the complexity or the complex simplicity of a Neptunes beat nor are they as catchy and easy to associate with a producer like Kanye o Lil John, but these bass heavy bangers can keep those 12s in the trunk of your hooptie bumpin for everyone on the block.

Mike Jones is not that talented. He can flow, but big f**kin' whoop. I can take you to a high school on the Eastside of San Antonio and introduce you to a better lyricist with a more appealing look and style. A short, stumpy, chubby brotha that speaks a variation of English that isn't recognized outside of his family isn't going to have the same allure as TI. Still, he can hold his own. Upon first listen for anyone not familiar with Mike Jones (Who?!) Mike Jones is that he says his name too goddamned much. Maybe he's struggling from narcissistic disorder, or maybe he doesn't have a broad enough vocabulary to add onto to his subpar lyrics, but the bottom line is, he's feeling himself way too much. Paul Wall, the white guy with the grill, could rhyme circles around the entire Swishahouse camp and makes Sr. Jones (Quien?!) Sr. Jones sound even wacker than he is.

In the end, we'll hear the name "Mike Jones" and be reminded on all of those crunk ass songs that were immediately devalued by his name's redundancy, or we'll laugh at what a gimmick he was.

i don't have his CD and i really don't want it but.. i'm posting about the "screwd & chopped".

i think it's really cool and kinda funny to listen to. they play all different songs on MTVJAMS that are "screwed & chopped". but, yeah, it's deffinitly not as known as crunk music.

The gap is being bridged between the two subgenres of hiphop
