book of the dead, project.. Options

Gah, damn projects. Anyways, this project is to design a "book of the dead". It should be about several religions and what they believe about death(funerals, afterlife, etc.)

Religions I have to do

• Buddhisn
• Judaism
• Christianity
• Ancient Rome
• Ancient Greece

Anyone know anything about it? I know Greece or Rome has a belief about in the afterlife: The spirit travels across a river in a boat to Hades. Hades has two parts, Alicia fields(sp?) and Shadow. Alicia fields was a good place with sunny skies for good people. Shadow was a dark place for bad people.

Please help me. The project is due on April 28, 2005.

this sounds like a big project... i hope you aren't expecting us to do it all...

i'll tell you about greek stuff a bit tho:

1. it's the underworld.
2. it's ruled by hades.
3. there are the elysian fields, where the good spirts go, it's filled with asphodels.
4. Charon was the ferryman, and had to be paid ferry the souls. myth says a coin under the tounge. The Illiad says two coins on the eyes. (i'd go with myth)
5. for the soul to go to the underworld, it must be covered with at least 3 handfuls of dirt (that's the minimum requirement for 'burial').
6. Hermes takes the dead to the underworld.
7. the gates to the underworld are adamantium.
8. cerebus, the three headed dog, guards the gates to make sure no one comes out.
9. there are 5 rivers in the underworld besides the styx. there is the: 1. phlagathon; river of fire (provided the only light), 2. Lethe, river of forgetfulness, 3. err... i don't remember them all.
