i have just started a xanga not very long ago. and i finally have decided to start customizing it a little bit. problem is i am totally computer illiterate. i managed to find a background i liked but i couldn't read my text over it. so i wanted to have my text in its own little box. so i found an html code on a website and it did that but the problem is i can type in those boxes when i am not even editing and am just look at my page.

i really don't know what to do to change that??? could somebody please help me. i looked through the topics to try and see something similar to this but i really dont' know what i am looking for, so i apologize in advance if this has been asked before.

the code i am using is this :
<TEXTAREA style="WIDTH: 372px; COLOR: #e7589f; BORDER-TOP-STYLE: solid; FONT-FAMILY: verdana; BORDER-RIGHT-STYLE: solid; BORDER-LEFT-STYLE: solid; HEIGHT: 176px; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffccff; BORDER-BOTTOM-STYLE: solid" rows=8 cols=44> ******text inserted here***** </TEXTAREA>

thank you all soo much

i mean that when i visit my site, or if someone else visits my site they are able to type text into those boxes, and shouldn't only i be able to do that when i am using the edit function. they are able to change my entries

as for what i don't get i just want to have like a block behind my text, that is a solid colour so that my text can be read. without altering my background image...does that make sense? so like a block of colour on top of my background which has text on it

thanks for replying
