OK I have a paper to write for my class Southern Woman:Myth and Reality. I'm going to be writing on the sterotypes and beliefs, etc of southern belles. I have to get opinions from other people that I will use in my paper. I thought CB would be a great place to start. So what comes to mind when you think of a southern belle. Also do you see southern belles are just be based on one race, white woman or do you consider other races as southern belles if they are from the south. Thank you in advance.

I wrote a paper for my friend that was similar to this entitled; "Northern Jerk, Southern Gentlemen" in which I did a compare and contrast on how men are viewed and how charming they are based on what part of the country they're from.
When I think of a Southern Belle, I think of the picture perfect image of a caucasian woman, born with a silver spoon in her mouth, that could be the spokesperson for proper decorum. Then, I also think of ignorance and the sheltered life she could live not being exposed to those of other races that are her equals or superiors. Finally, I think of the Kentucky Derby. And I'm sure that speaks for itself. |
