The beliefs of reincarnation have been passed down generation to generation, this issue has been aloft to me when my bud and i were talking about it one tuesday afternoon. Is it possible for someone to die, and then be born again into the form of a type of animal? foresay, a duck, could my grandma be a duck across the pond and i may not even know it? so much questions i have, i just need some answers ><.

I believe in the transmigration of souls (at least in a sense).... which is a type of reincarnation. I think the soul in immortal and eternal. Once the body that houses it perishes the soul leaves the world of everyday existence, the physical world of change and decay, and goes to dwell in "the real world" of eternal and unchangable. When the soul becomes rembodied, it forgets the truth it had when it was in communion with the Forms. Why do i believe this, because it explains two things for me.
Why we seem to have a concept of what beauty is, justice, equality, etc. through only an imperfect and confused conception. We cannot define these things. Example....We can say a sunset is beautiful, but we cannot define beauty or say what makes up beauty. It may be becasue we only have a dim recollection of what "beauty" as a Form was when our soul was not being housed. Secondly, our dim recollection of the Forms explains why we even pose the question"what is justice?" etc. in the first place, why we even ask ourselves, why we even wonder. This is directly from Plato's Republic so it is not my opinion or explaination, but i somewhat agree with him. |
