emo is a genre that came off the d.c. punk scene in the late 80s with artists with more emotional lyrics than the other, more hardcore, punk bands in the same area. an example would be rites of spring. what kind of music the term defines changed many times until today, where it is usually given to pop punk bands with "my girlfriend dumped me i'm so sad" kind of lyrics (like most of the bands mentioned in this thead) or just bands with emotional lyrics in general (such as bright eyes). i personally think emo is dead and that the term has been so bastardized it really can't apply to any modern music or artists, but that's just my take. mmm. i thought that was a pretty good summary on my part. there's a lot more stuff on google too. topic closed? |
