For all of us still trudging through public schools and those whose tax dollars fund our education...
Does standardized testing (SATs ACTs etc.) accurately measure a student's capacity, and, more importantly, should it be as integral to education as it is currently? |

I got a 1310 on my SATs and I've basically coasted through high school. I'm not lazy by any means, but high school just is in no way challenging to me.
Here, we have the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) and it's garbage. Freshman are required to take a practice version which, surpisingly, is the same version the juniors and seniors take. The only time I've taken any type of standardized testing seriously was when we had a chance to write about a bullsh!t prompt. That's when I used satirical humor in an effort to piss of the school board. Standardized testing is just a way to monitor your school's 'academic progress' as well as come to a conclusion about minorities and how they test. "Check which nationality best describes you; white/caucasian, black/african-american (not hispanic), asian/pacific islander, american indian, other" I love not checking anything. Why should it matter? |
