Yeah. Kayso, found out some not-so-great news earlier today. I'm too lazy to type it all out, so here's what I wrote in my xanga:
"Ever since I was pretty much old enough to walk, I'd always been around my neighbor, April, and her older brother, "Buhbuh." I remember when I was really little I'd always go over to their driveway and play basketball with April, because that girl always had a basketball in her hands. I'd never in my life looked up to someone the way I did to her. She was always just the nicest thing. She's... I think 6 years older than me, and she was Homecoming Queen for Berkmar a her senoir year and she made the newspaper a few times for her basketball skills and all that good stuff. She went to North Georgia College on a basketball scholarship and she was, hands down, going to have a professional career in Women's basketball. That girl was just amazing. Anyway, her older brother, "Buhbuh", was an Abercrombie and Fitch model. Totally gorgeous, just the nicest guy ever. I was like... in love with him when I was just a little toddler. So, this past summer, he moved to California. April went to visit him this summer, and they'd ride their bikes all the time in Hollywood and everything. So today, we just found out that the reason she's been home for a while is because... One day while they were riding their bikes, a cement truck hit April from behind and somehow knocked her under the truck. The guy didn't even realize he'd hit her until he felt the bike under the tires, but by then, he'd already drove over her legs and feet. For weeks, the doctors thought they'd have to cut off both of her legs, but thank GOD, she's walking again. Of course, it's going to take years of therapy to try and recover, but she'll never play ball again. Ever. That girl doesn't deserve that. I bawled when I found out earlier." Oh, and she's been extremely depressed lately, I'm sure you can understand why. She's been going to a psychiatrist because she's been suicidal. I love that girl to death. It's so sad, she was one of the best people I ever knew. She doesn't deserve what had happened to her. Kids, be smart. Wear your damned helmets. Be smart. The only reason she's still alive to this day was because of that helmet that kept her head from slamming against the pavement. Take care everybody. |

The truck driver should get sued, if he didn't.
Anywho, that's a really tragic story... good luck to her. she seems like a really brave sort of person... And yeah, you really should wear ur helmet. This one guy came into our school one day to talk... he was paralyzed from the neck down (he could still sort of move his arms, but not his fingers) because he was riding his bike and he was crossing an intersection and he didn't see a truck coming. He said that the only thing keeping him alive was his helmet. That guy was truly amazing because he was trying to go from I think the top of North America to the bottom of South America. He was supposed to go in the Guiness book of world records, too, if he hadn't had that injury. |
