what was china's relationship with the U.S during World war 1 and what is china's relationship with the U.S now?

not sure about WWI but i know that now, china nd usa relationship seems kinda tense to me. theres lotsa concern about how china replaced the usa as the world's leading consumer, and how last year (or was it the year before?) china put their first person into space, and a third world power jumped into the space race. i also think that the whole 'chinas-building-up-their-military' thing isnt too popular either.....but then enter taiwan and north korea and its just a bunch of frickin corrupted politics
