Its inevitable....but when?? Options

we all know that eventually humans will have to deal with some crazy stuff like overpopulation, decaying of the environment, global warming, and running out of fossil fuels and resources.....the fact is that we're feeling the early affects of alot of these lately....

but how soon will it take to become a huge problem that affects our lives directly?? in our lifetime maybe??.....

#1 - we already ARE dealing with overpopulation. maybe not in america, but in other parts of the world. [ie: CHINA]

There's always a surprising increase in population, but something always comes along to balance it out. I forget what it's called. It's always happened in China throughout the centuries.

#2 - global warming is an issue that is affecting us. maybe not as much as it could...but it is. hence- in new jersey, the weather is all f**ked up. [i dont know about other areas] one day it is 70 degrees [IN THE MIDDLE OF JANUARY] and then the next day it is below zero.

That's most likely because of the tsunami. The earth was tilted by...ack. I can't remember that, either. Like two centimeters or less I believe. I can't remember. Also, back in the seventies, there was the threat of global freezing. That never happened.

#3 - running out of fuels: i have no idea when that will start to be a problem. that's why we should start making almost ALL cars run on something that isn't gasoline. sooner or later, we won't have any choice.

Scientists are working now to create synthetic elements and other solar-powered things (as the post below yours states); I don't think that's really too much of an issue at hand.

i doubt it will happen in our lifetime but with how the world is now, i can only imagine what will happen.

you mean the end of the world? the mayans predicted it to be december 23, 2012. but its crazy. and that huuuge asteroid that could potentially harm the earth isn't planning to hit us anytime soon, so environmentally, and i guess our resources will run out faster than we think. everything else, will come later...

Really? The Mayans predicted that? Hmm. Oh and the sun is due to burn out a long time from now. That might kill us.

cars will never be solar powered.

solar cells do produce enough amperes to drive a car, much less an SUV.

You never know what scientists will develop in the future.

president Bush's clean air act increases air pollution, by letting old factories pollute more, if they're not updated more than 1/3 a year.

in three years you could have a new power plant polluting like hell.

things stay. Ozone degrading chemicals, although they weren't used anymore around the 70s (or so) , are still in the ozone. it will take years to go away.

the earth still needs to purge the chemicals we've put.

passivly stopping isn't going to work.

we need to activley heal the earth.

Yeah, this is definitely something I strongly disagree with Bush for. We need to do something even if the threat doesn't seem as bad now. I mean, we need to focus on possibly smaller steps. I don't think we should focus all of our energy on this, but I do believe we need to be aware of the future.

About the whole energy source thing.....

my boyfriend is working on building a hydrolysis engine from a spare 1988 SAAB 9000 Turbo engine. So far, it's working, and he has sucessfully separated water into hydrogen and oxygen, and he can run the engine from water, and the output is water. His only problem is the combustablilty of the Oxygen and the Hydrogen when they are separate. (if there is a crash or something in the car.)

He was thinking that by taking the technology of the impending rollover bars in the new SAAB convertable, and applying it to have it so if there was a crash, or a dent being make in the car, then the hydrogen and oxygen tanks would instanly depressorize.
