how to get this girl to stop smokin cause she depressed

i've been in this situation before with my friend jill. she used to be a smoker. i guess one of the reasons was depression.

but my two friends and i helped her quit. i guess we all came at it from different angles, though.


my tactic was to be there to support her. i don't ever think you should stop being someone's friend because of something like that. i made it clear to her that i thought what she was doing is wrong and it's not only hurting her, but people around her and that she's too good for that sh!t and the only reason our friends are pressuring her is because we care. but i also made it clear that it was up to her. i told her that she was free to do whatever she wanted and no one could force her to stop but it wasn't right. so i left it up to her and gave her as much emotional and mental support as i could.

sam and becky had different ideas, though. they threatened not to be her friend anymore and i understood that. i think they would have made up eventually no matter what, and i think their tactic definatly helped her stop smoking, but i didn't think it was right. i understood their position, but i also wanted to be there for jill to help her through the fights she had with sam and becky as well as the quiting.


jill doesn't smoke anymore. i'd recomend trying the same with your friend.
