Well i have my own page and i guess here are some tips for you
- Have Good Spelling im not saying that you have to be a great speller but if you want people to actually stay and be interested in your site then make sure you have some good spelling and grammer. - Do Not type in sticky caps . Its annoying to alot of people. - Have alot of visitors content . Meaning have alot of stuff your people that visit your website . It will not only keep them entertained but it will make them come back. - If your having a blog site its always good to join places like xposure because its a great way for you to give comments and recieve comments . As well as being a great way to get more hits. - Make sure your layout is not blinding . Meaning not using blinding colors . - Don't Overdue things in a layout . Like say you were using glitter dont have like a full page full of glitter. For more hits wise: - Join places like xposure. - Join Rotations. Rotations are sites that show your button when people are visiting your site . It's a great way to get hits. - Join Directorys. - Plug your site on other peoples plugboards . - Tag peoples tagboards , and in the url spot leave your url . well those are all the tips i got so far. |

+ Don't overuse marquees.
+ Have a nice color scheme. + Vary the link color from the text color. (Personal preference). + Having tons and tons of Javascript does not make your page any better. Use in moderation. + Be cross-browser compatible. I hate when I need to open up IE just to read some text that isn't in the least bit interesting. + Don't disable right click on everything. Just images is a lot better. Why? It don't like the effort it takes to open a link in a new window when right-click is disabled. But that's just me. + Don't use target="_new". That annoys me to no end. Use target="_blank" instead. + Give credit to every source you remember. It's proper etiquette. + Don't type really 1337. Most people can't read 1337. Also, don't type lYkE dIsH. It's annoying. I don't think this applies to you though. + Having everything blinking is hard on the eyes. Don't. + Read these articles or whatever. [ http://pootato.org/articles/coding/index.php ] [ http://pootato.org/articles/make_your_text...dable/index.php ] [ http://pootato.org/articles/a_reason_for_a_website/index.php ] [ http://pootato.org/articles/images_format/index.php ] [ http://pootato.org/articles/dont/index.php ] + Be nice. Nice is always better than not nice. + Don't trash everyone who gives you a bad comment. =S ---- Wow... I wrote a lot. ![]() |

Don't just slap on a bunch of javascript codes [something that a lot of people tend to do]. Keep the layout & coding clean and appealing.
Edit: blah. nyah-nek0 & I basically posted at the same time, so sorry for being repetitive... Actually, this just stresses that point even more ![]() |

Oh , and if you have more than one page make your navigation and content on the pages organized.
Get a commenting system on your site , for comments and critisism(sorry i know i spelled that word wrong) . http://haloscan.com is a great free one. |

Well , you dont really need any programs to make a site . All you really need is
- HTML knowledge. For instance if you really want a program for that you can get a trial for dreamweaver or frontpage to help with codeing. There are lots of free scripts out there that can help you but as said before dont use too many scripts . http://pixelfx.org thats a great site that can help. |

1. Make sure your webpage validates as whatever version of HTML you are using. If it does, it will most likely display properly across browsers. Use standard code!
2. Don't use things like JavaScript popups. They are annoying. 3. Don't automatically load music or videos or anything with sound on your site. I don't want your favorite music interrupting my favorite music, damn it. 4. Don't use "target=_blank" in link tags. Not only is it invalid in newer versions of HTML (as of XHTML 1.1), but I'll decide if I want your link to open in a new window. 5. Function over form. Make your page easy to navigate, and don't let your layout attract away from what matters--your content. |
