Yeah, couldn't think of any creative choices for the poll, but do you think it matters to type correctly online? Personally, I think it does because it seems like the people who don't 'tipe lyk dis' are a lot more .. logical than the ones that do type that way. What do you think?

Yes, I think it does matter.
It strains my eyes to try to read what people say when they type like that.
And frankly, it's just not cool. stubborn.gif

Literacy is definitely important online.

If people "tYp3 lYk d1s", they come across as unintelligent, and it is highly unlikely for anybody to take whatever they have to say seriously.

Well yeah, obviously. What good does it do to come off as an idiot. In real life, do you not want to present yourself in the best light possible? Why is it different online?

i'm not really sure.

i mean sure, if you TyP LyK DiiS people are going to think that you're a moron (or something) but a lot of my friends who are more "logical" than me type like that. Well, kinda. And I know them in person so I can't say that they're a moron because well, they're not (not really.)

Wait, do you know what "literate" means? Of course you have to be literate. Those who cannot read and write obviously cannot effectively navigate the intenet, not to mention communicate with others. It is awfully get by in the country illiterate.

I think she is using literate as exagerating a bit. Like people who TyP LyK DiiS might as well be illiterate. Did that make any sense?

Anyways yea it does matter. Besides you give a very wrong 1st impression if you TyP LyK DiiS.

Okay, I shouldn't have said LITERATE. I mean like perfectly correct. Reading and writing perfectly without mistakes and if there are any, there are very few.

And answering your question, there seem to be a lot of people online that say "its tha intrnet!! we dont hav 2 typ corectli u no wut i meen!!11"

No, I do not think it matters.

But yes, I think the people who use correct literacy online apear more knowledgible. (sp?)

This is probably why everyone now thinks I am stupid, because I don't check my spelling happy.gif

Do what you want, if someone doesn't like your spelling than who cares, you don't have to read their angry retort rolleyes.gif

well if that's what you meant, then i don't think it should be PERFECT, but not like DiZz.. i mean for me, you don't really have to capitalize every first letter of a sentence or a proper noun or whatever, just so it's not hard to read..

It doesn't have to be perfect... It just has to be typed well enough so that people can understand what they're trying to say.

Hm... I don't really mind if there are a few grammar or spelling mistakes, as long as they don't type anything wrong on purpose. I also don't mind if people shorten some words, like, you or are, but it does annoy me when someone types LyK dIsZ or LiK3 DiSZ or lyke diz on purpose.

I say no. I once myself was a person who didnt know how to type in words. Haha, yes. And a lot of people on the internet still don't. It's not like internet is some kind of school where you need to have good grammar all the time. Mainly, kids use it to chat with their friends and use "u" "r" "wat" "2" etc. to make it shorter because they're probably too lazy to type out the whole word. Eh, I can read it. I see no problem with it unless it doesn't make sense... blink.gif

I agree with Toby. The internet isn't some kind of school, and people are not required to type perfectly. Yes, it bugs me if they type with all the sticky caps and use words that are illegible lyYYk33 d111zZz!!1 But if they just want to shorten their words and don't type it in an annoying way or they're in a hurry, I'm alright with them using words like "u", "r", "2" as long as I can understand them. I would prefer the person to type correctly, but I won't go nuts if they don't. Just as long as I can understand what they're saying, then I'm okay. And if I don't understand, well then forget it!

yeah, but a lot of people...(most people especially on cB) are too obsessed with how other people write. get over it and get over yourself. all because someone abbreviates "you" as "u" or "this" as "dis", doesn't mean that you're a perfect english student and the other person isnt. move on with your life and stop whining.

I think as long as u are easily understood, how u type is not that important. I do, however, think that when u have to stop and decipher what people are saying, that you need to cut back on the misspelling of things. But for me, and "u" instead of you everyonce in a while never hurt anyone.

So I know this is an old topic, but I've been seeing more and more xamples of that MORONIC way of typing, so I decided to vent a bit...in here.

Okay, I know there are people out there with less-than-perfect grammar and spelling, and I can deal with that, but when you so blatantly type with the most obnoxious spelling/grammatical errors on purpose, it truly does reflect badly on you.

I know for certain that when I see someone doing that, it totally turns me off to them. I'd rather not talk to anyone who's going to message me with something that I'll have to decode to understand.

I wish this would stop. I know that my little rant isn't going to stop it, but now my opinion is out there for everyone to see.

Yay me, and yes, I know, I'm not queen of the freakin' world.

yes it does. unless it's words like "u" instead of "you" then it's fine. but if people type in a way that it's unreadable, then that's definately a problem. anyway, it's easier for the person who's reading what you're typing when you type correctly.

Yes it does, but only to a certain extent. I'm not going to think any less of a person because they don't capitalize the word 'I' or spell 'you', 'u'. However, using sticky caps and that kind of stuff would probably lower my image of you a little.

Agreed, lol. Sure, sticky caps and l337 gets to a few of the cBers here, but I can decipher what they say. If we're so eager to make such a great impression off and online, then why don't we all stop using slang, keep out our grammatical errors, use the rules for "you and me", and talk like the big corporate bosses. Wouldn't that just make a happier world? biggrin.gif ...I don't think so. stubborn.gif We need to lighten up just a bit, but if you really have a hard time w/ reading sticky caps and l337...tell them to type normally, just for you. happy.gif

I think it does really matter. It classify what type of person.

When i was writing an eassy, i accidently put "u" instead of "you. It does affect me.

It doesn't completely matter. It's just that it irks me that people can't even find the difference between "your" and "you're," etc. This is simple English...people. It's incredibly sad.

Oh and also...when people say it doesn't have to be absolutely perfect, fine. But it shouldn't be something hard to do. It shouldn't be something you just do when you're in school. Then what's the fricken point of school? So you only work hard in school and just slack off elsewhere?

Agreed, lol. Sure, sticky caps and l337 gets to a few of the cBers here, but I can decipher what they say. If we're so eager to make such a great impression off and online, then why don't we all stop using slang, keep out our grammatical errors, use the rules for "you and me", and talk like the big corporate bosses. Wouldn't that just make a happier world? biggrin.gif ...I don't think so. stubborn.gif We need to lighten up just a bit, but if you really have a hard time w/ reading sticky caps and l337...tell them to type normally, just for you. happy.gif

Are you saying we need to be corporate bosses to type properly? What we say defines us...not our grammar (to some extent).

I understand what you're trying to say, but yes, it does reflect badly on you (if you type like that). It gives off a bad impression and may in turn push people away from you. I don't know if one might care about such a thing, but I just thought I'd point it out.

I, myself, think that typing in perfect grammar is a "yes." I mean, we must express and show off our knowledge in Literacy Arts! Well, sort of, but as long as we understand it, yeah. ermm.gif

Yeah, I think it does matter. 1f u t1pe lyke d1s a11 teh t11me then it like, totally fries everything you've ever known about normal grammer out of your brain. And it's annoying as sh*t to try & read it. I mean, come on, what's the frikin point?? Some people say it's 'easier' or 'faster' but it really isn't. I know, beacause I used to type like that (all of my friends were doing it too..) pinch.gif
It's scary sometimes. My friend types like that all the time, and once she IMed me, and got ticked at me for frikin typing correctly!! How insane is that?!? Here's how it went:
----
Her- hi
Me- Hi
Her- wuts up?
Me- Not much, you?
Her- n2m
Her- ...cud u plz not type lyke that?
Me- blink.gif wtf? What the hell is wrong with proper grammer?!?!
Her- its annoyin. i dun lyke havin skool outside of skool.
Me [thinking]-- {WTF?!?! What the hell is wrong with her?! She thinks the way I type is annoying!?!?}
----

Can you see how f*cking annoying that was?!? So, uh..yeah.
