Okay, I was thinking maybe there should be a pinned topic in Feedback where people could post topics that should be closed and haven't been closed yet.

Why? Because I feel like I'm wasting my time actually searching for similar topics and posting them on ones that should be closed. On a lot of occasions, I'll post it there and it won't ever be closed. Why waste my time trying to tidy up cB when I really have no power? So... everyone on cB, mod or not can contribute by posting up threads that should be closed on this one topic. That way people won't feel like they're wasting their time searching.

To prove my point, here's a list of topics waiting to be closed:

http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...0&#entry1513576
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...opic=55414&st=0
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...opic=67131&st=0
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...opic=73585&st=0
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...opic=18040&st=0
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...topic=40668&hl=
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...topic=8477&st=0
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...opic=26390&st=0
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...9&hl=first+kiss
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...opic=71569&st=0
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...topic=65905&hl=
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...topic=65840&hl=
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...opic=33604&st=0

Also... when mods have nothing better to do, they can just check and see if there are any topics needing to be closed and they can just go close them. There's nothing to lose...

I don't think that's neccessary. There are already members who post in a topic saying that it has already been made. If mods see that, they can close it. And if even they don't, mods can search themselves and close whenever they can. It's not THAT big of a deal if the topic has already been made, anyways. It's sorta like a v.2 of the topic if it's all the way in the dead. ermm.gif

sorry, what? no idea what thread you speak of, but i presume i had a valid reason

and i just looked at your list and the first 3 topics i clicked on had no reason to be closed. that's why we have mods to moderate. we can typically close sensibly. as bitchy as i may be lately, i am a good mod. i make good judgements

Ooooooooooh that. Well, because it was ridiclous and had no point. It wasn't funny and made little sense, so as far as I could see, there was no reason for it to remain open

... You're a good mod for closing that? People were actually enjoying it and posting comments. Why would you close that? Your reason was 'shut up now'.

whoa now. let's all pipe down now and get back to being happy friendly people.

anyhow, i don't think those topics need to be closed. sure, some of them are rather silly but these topics have some point and people are posting and enjoying these topics therefore they're serving some sort of purpose and don't need to be closed.

how is it completely irrelevant? both hypothetical examples i gave were scenerios in which the person with power closes topics because is it not to her liking. the topic "omfg" did not break any rules at all, and i suppose it could have been moved to humor for the comical value.

Goodness, you treat me as if I don't know already. Yes, people a person is disagreeing with me right now. Learn to deal. Hm.. yes..

I think I've been here long enough to understand who is a good or bad moderator. I can judge appropriately because it's COMMON SENSE which apparently you have very little of. It seems you aren't understanding what me and Steven are trying to explain to you. MY TOPIC WAS NOT VIOLATING THE RULES. YOU CLOSED IT BECAUSE YOU PERSONALLY DIDN'T LIKE IT. + James. I'm not mad at you because you closed my topic. It's because of the reason you decided to close it. For yourself and James. That's abusing your powers as a moderator.

you don't seem to.

and no, it's really not. you're taking this too personally. typically, i close topics that directly violate rules. that one did a good enough job grinding my nerves that i closed it as well. you can't say i'm a bad mod because of that. you're being judgemental when apperently you don't understand thse simple concepts

guys, guys ... GUYS!! 'tis not the time nor place to decide who is a good moderator and who should be mods. wink.gif now, let's all just chill out.

BACK TO TOPIC

no, that thread would be...uh...idk what it would be but we dont' need it. instead of just posting int the thread saying that it needed to be closed, just simply PM a moderator. that would work 32984328 times better than making a thread which we have to click, read yada yada yada yada....................wacko.gif

EDIT;; and for the record, nicki is a GREAT mod she's just been going through some major mood swings. console.gif

If a mod sees an unnecessary topic, they'll close it, problem solved.
If they don't see it, someone's gonna tell them to close it sooner or later so chill.

I don't think this is such a good idea. If we have cBers saying which topics need to be closed and whatnot, then that would cause a huge chaos. They will be arguing and disagreeing constantly. It's the mod's job to see unnecessary topics and close them. I don't think cBers should be involved. They will probably just drive them crazy.

Funny you should mention that. I've been thinking as of late that there should be a way to let moderators know of topics that should be closed (due to being redundant) or moved. I've sometimes been tempted to report them, but I think reporting is supposed to be only used in the case of an offensive topic and the like; furthermore, I seem to recall that reported topics alert every single moderator and seem fairly overkill for a topic that is redundant or misplaced. Perhaps there should be a way to report redundent topics or ones that need to be moved, similar to the reporting system but not as urgent.

Or, PM's could just be used, I guess, if that is considered acceptable to all the moderators.

Yea just..PM one moderator from that section.

The reason we don't want topics that need to be closed or something reported is cause it sends it to ALL moderators of that section, which is really annoying to people staff since there's so many. If one mod fixes the problem, then the other 11 click on it and it's already closed, it gets really annoying.

Also, people STILL CANNOT UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REPORT AND REPLY. It's very very annoying to recieve 10 of the same report only to open the PM and see "why isnt my post working?!?!?!"

Perhaps the one Katt was talking about?

And since when was that topic a worthless topic and what harm was it doing to CB? It's simple logic. If something is disrupting cB, you close it. What harm was that topic doing? None. And it does have as much entertainment as a lot of other topics out there like the ones Yula and Jason make that don't get closed.

[james] nicki closes jason and yula's topics almost on insticnt, so you really cant fault her for that

your topic was gerating spam and pointless one line responses, as well as being ludicrously image heavy. now STOP WHINING

This is the sort of time when an apostrophe (or at least capitalization) is almost a necessity.

ohmygod, do you know how lame that was? Also, I am pretty sure youuu is not a word in the english language. Secondly, get off of Nicki's back. She did the right thing and you are just being a bitch. She is the "spokesperson" because she is a MOD. Jusun hired her to keep this place in line.

English language my ass. how about you stop analyzing every little thing that someone says, like "OMG SHE USED YOUUU INSTEAD OF YOU!!!!" It's really irritating and it doesn't make you look any smarter.

Uhhh..ok. Thanks, a-hole. rolleyes.gif

oh, yeah. i forgot to say that i think that the IDEA of having this is good, but it's practically impossible to make it happen. People would post the same topics that need to be closed over and over again. This would create spam and confusion.

My first reply wasn't focused on your spelling. It was focused on how you were stupid for bitching at Nicki. She is only doing her job, lay off.

If she is supposedly doing her job, then how come on the "omfg" topic, she closes it and says "shut up now". To me, that isn't a valid reason to close a topic. She could've put "This topic is closed because ______."

Your topic was pointless and all the replies were just the same and full of spam. I don't see how your topic contributed anything, all it did was help lower my IQ.

edit Thanks Autumn.

Maybe you people just need to loosen up once in a while. Not everything has to have a valid reason to stay open. It isn't going to harm anyone because a few people are increasing their post count by 1 or 2 posts. ermm.gif

I think that if you have a big problem with a thread being closed, it's more appropriate to PM a moderator or an administrator, rather than discussing it at great length.

It's not a matter of the topic being closed but how the staff members are abusing their powers. And that's a bigger problem.

^If you are referring to this case specifically, I'd disagree. Nicki was not "abusing" her power as a mod.

I'd have to agree with crazyjew. I think one case does not automatically equal "abusing powers". If it happened a string of times, that might be different; but in this single case, PM'ing a mod might be a better option. Who knows? You might even get them to reopen it if you approach them in a respectable manner.

I would agree that if a mod is going to lock a thread, giving a reason rather than "just shut up" could be more acceptable, but that's a different argument.

i concur with rachel. i don't think that nicki was abusing any power. mellow.gif the topic was generating spam so it wouldn't it make sense to close it. _unsure.gif and i don't think that any of the moderators abuse their powers AT ALL. but if there is, please say who now so that we can it straightened out ASAP.

I think this is the most reasonable response I've read in this whole thread. 'Doesn't really matter to me this one time, but if it happens again, I'm obviously going to be upset. And Frankie, I'm going to complain to you. stubborn.gif

Wow. Ok.

1. Let's stop with the petty insults and comebacks. Seriously, how old are we all?
2. Katt, if Nicki closed your topic, oh well. That's not abusing her powers, it's using her judgement. Sure, she didn't give the best response when closing it, I'll give you that, but she has now explained why she closed it, so just roll with it. If it's really that big of a deal, complain to the people that hired her and they'll probably give you some good reasons about why she's a mod. Don't complain to her or Frankie or any of us; there's not exactly something we could do about it even if we agreed. You're known for being mature about things and having your topic closed really isn't that big of a deal.

i don't know if this is spam or not --> about closing topics, for example in webdesign if you were asking about how to do something, and no one has responded in a while mods can't close topics if the topic creator has not comfirmed that they understand.
example

quote taken from example:
QUOTE(nyah-nek0 @ Aug 31 2005, 10:20 PM)
Because the original topic creator still hasn't replied. Meh. I can't really close it until they reply....

^

perhaps there should be an alternative? such as, closed after the creator replies, OR after a certain amount of time, if its still hanging around on the first page?

eh, what do i know, i dont even use te webdesign forums, but still, just an idea

That's my personal thing. I don't like closing things because then I get 50575373476 new topics I need to close simply because I closed the first one. Which they could've still posted in. mellow.gif That's why a lot of the Xanga Help topics are still open. Because people make the topic and never say "thank you" or anything so I can close it... Make any sense?
