CELL PHONES, am i the only one without one? Options

ok, i'm 14, and i dont have a cell phone. am i really the only one taht doesnt? at my school, so many people bring them to school, that they've actually changed the rules and allow u to have them at school. i asked my parents a couple of times to get me one, but they say i dont need it. their pretty much right, i dont really NEED a cell phone, but id like to have a private line so that people can call me and i'll be the one to pick up..and id like to be able to go out and not have to ask friends to use their phones..

so yea..am i the only average 14 year old without one?!

ehh i don't know. most of my friends have them... and then there's maybe a few that dont. ratio is probably 7:1 students that have phones here in my area.

but you're 14--which is middle school, so i'm not sure about back then. i'm gonna be a sophomore--so most people probably already have one.

i got my first one in 6th grade when i was 12 but then, a month later, i left it in my pocket and it was washed in the washing machine and was ruined . wow i was an idiot.

and then, this, year (3 YEARS LATER), i got another one---and less than a month later---i lost it on the bus for this orchestra uil competition

and i loved that phone

and thne i got another on in march--and i've had it ever since. not sure how it relates to having one or not--but that's my story

like everybody i no has one..or two i've had mine since i was 10 or 11 i've broke 5 phones since then 3 motorola T720's a kyocera thingy and my favorite one samsung lg camera phone now i'm back to motorola lol so yeah if you lived here you'd be the only one without one

A lot of people here have them but really though, do they NEED them? no.

I have one but that's only cause I bought it myself. It's been five months and I realized I don't really NEED one and I only liked the idea of having one.

I think it's pointless how I see like 10 year old girls around my area who have cellphones clipped onto their jeans to think they're like cool or something. No, seriously.. why do 10-year olds need cellphones? That makes me mad.

they make house funs that are one flat out monthly rate. use that instead of waiting til 7-9...depending when night minutes start to call.

i honestly think cell phones are pointless and it doesnt make you cool like it used to. like if you go to school kids would be like "hey let me see your cell phone!" or "omg you have a phone? you are so cool."

I don't care to much for cell phones.
They make it really hard to get away from it all.
However I'm not allowed to leave the house without a phone
so I got one. No BS with a camera phone and junk like that.
I only use my phone to call my mom when I go out to call her if there is a change of plans. Like last year my friends and I were at a club, we left to my friends house which happens to be in an area where I don't get any service what so ever. ANYWAYS That club we were at caught on fire, my mother didn't know where I was and she was freaking out. Of course I was oblivious to any information about the fire. So when I called my mother in the morning to ask her if she wanted me to bring her anything from Ihop she was relieved but so mad that I didn't call. Needless to say I was in trouble. So now I call.

Get one if you really want one. However beware of the resposibilities that comes with it. Don't say I didn't worn you.

I have a cell phone... but not a lot of people need them... cell phones are useless... just ask your parents for another phone line for you... it should be cheaper than a cell phone... and it's better to use your friends because at the end of the month it's your friend or their parents that has to pay for the cell phone bill not you or your parents ...

Well I'm 15, and I need one ;D. Not to talk on the phone with people (but that's a plusplusplussss), but to contact my mom if anything happens or if I need a ride or I need to tell her something (like I'm on board on a plane or whatever). It's really convenient if you think about it.

i dont have a cell either. What sucks about that is not the fact that i dont have a cell it that everyone around me has one. This 6th grader i know has one and my sister is getting one for her b-day later in the year. But i dont really mind. My parents cant keep tabs on me like where i go or who i hang out with not that its a problem. I tell them and if they dont trust me well thats there problem. Planning to get one anyways next year after i turn 16 and get a job. Cant depend on my parents forever.

You can ask your mom for like a tracfone(<<----that's how it's really spelled) thing. I have one and I'm eleven. No sweetie! You are not the only one without one. I am 17 and i still don't have one. Look on the bright side though, you can be places and your parents, and other people that you would rather not know where you are, can't call every second and ruin your fun. It'll be ok! I'm pretty sure that everyone will have one some day!

So don't worry about it. As long as there are friends letting you use theirs when you absolutely NEED it, which you said that you don't really need one, you're good.

haha i kept pestering my parents for one and im in 9th grade. yea well i was the only one out of my friends that didnt have a cell phone. so 1st i felt left out kinda. like somethings wrong with me. second cuz i really need to call my parents and stuff and i always borrow my friends cells. but dont worry about it. its not that big of a deal. for me its cooler cuz i got mp3 player capabilities and a whole bunch.
but think about it this way. when you have a cell phone, you are also giving your parents the opportunity to track you down. lol. well have fun with ur phone.

i think when you become a freshman its a necessity. so your 14 i guess you should have one.

they came out with a new phone for younger kids. its like for really young kids, its called firefly. and it has icons for mom and dad. but you cant call anyone else, just mom and dad.
