ok, so im tired of the way i look, plain and simple. i want to change it. i want to work out, diet, and eat right, but i dont really know the best way to go about it.

i already have access to a gym, so thats taken care of. now i need a routine. what do most of you guys do when you go to the gym?

i also want to go on a diet to help lose the wait, not just gain muscles. what are some diets that you would recommend?

btw
Im 16
around 190 lbs
and about 5'8

any help or plans would be greatly appreciated

Well, almost every day (I miss maybe one day in two weeks) I run 4.5-5 miles, do about 120 crunches, 120 push-ups, bicep curls, bench presses, pull-ups, and chin-ups. It works out well.

The key to losing fat is to increase your metabolism, not necessarily cut calories. Increasing your metabolism is achieved in two key ways: cardiovascular exercise (running, namely), and building muscle mass. It takes a certain amount of calories just to maintain a pound of muscle, so if you have more muscle, you will require more calories a day to maintain that mass--without even having to do anything extra.

Of course, it takes energy to build muscle, so cutting calories can actually reduce your chances of losing fat.

Keep in mind, too, that a pound of muscle weighs more than a pound of fat, so if you lose fat and gain muscle, you will actually gain weight, too; but this is a good thing because it means you are building muscle.

Wow you make me feel so small! I'm 5'5 and I weight 115 pounds. Anyway, my thing is I run for 30 minutes everyday. I really don't work out anything else but that is my way of losing weight and staying slim. Along with that, I stuff my face like a pig and I have no diet at all. Well, they only thing that I do would be I drink a gallon of water every day. I have a half gallon bottle that I carry with me all the time and as soon as I finish it I fill it up and finish it then I'm done. Of course I don't drink it all at once, it usually lasts me the whole day too but I have to pee like a mofo x.x but its great being slim =)

Oh, yeah-- in terms of diet, just try to cut out junk food that is a lot of calories but has no nutritional value. Like, instead of soda, drink juice or water, and instead of potatoe chips and cake, eat fruit (I really like mandarin oranges or pineapple), yogurt, frozen yogurt, sherbet, crackers, or something like that. Cereal is a good snack, too. I've found that Cracklin' Oat Bran is sweet enough to make a good snack when eaten dry.
