This would be a really good thing to have, so we can all have personalized text for a default, Instead of having to type in, or press the buttons on each post that we make. It would be a part of our controls. :)

I'd prefer the opposite--removing custom text styles (font face and color) altogether, since it throws off the uniformity of the board styles.

A lot of the text on the forums could be really hard to read.

Like my brightness is set on my computer as really really bright so this forum isn't really blue. It's more like pearly bluish white.

^Mines too.

I'm not all for that. Because there some members who text are bright and/or unreadable and adding that option could possibly make things more complicated. I think it is fine the way it is.

Yeah I agree that it might be hard to read..it might be a bit annoying. I think it's fine the way it is. Good idea though, just some people would pick really annoying fonts + colors =/

i know that, but i like to see peoples sigs. but also back to what i was referring to was that i like to have my text small, to size1 and maybe to have it dark green.. i mean people already do this correct. Yes. i was just wondering instead of having to paste it everytime you want to reply or somthing it will already be there for you.

i always wondered if we could do that too. it's not a bad idea. i mean, if people wanted annoying fonts (which they already have) they could do it now anyway. it wouldn't really change much, just make lazy people like myself have individuality. :]

I think it matters on what you post, not what your font and text color is.
There's nothing wrong with the default one.

Well, there should be font restrictions for all members including regular member.

special limited font colors for offical members and above. (not for regular member).

anyways, we might need the color red for warning, alert, important things and etc ..

we already have colors..
that's why making a default font option wouldn't make much of a difference.

in fact..

i'll type like this in my posts from now on.

Apparently most people that posted thought that it would change the entire forum.

The person suggested their text ONLY be changed to that option.
That way they wouldn't have to manually add the BBCODES to alter their text everytime they posted.3

I like this idea.

i don't see what the big deal is. the picture that tom posted up gives you the choice to change the font FACE, COLOR & SIZE. people can already do that now but they just have to manually type in the font names/colors. i think this would be fun to have.

but i REALLY don't like the background color idea. that could make it look ugly, IMO. sick.gif

Essentially this would be perfect for people who change their font for every post.

Be it font face, color, size.. Like it's been said already, it would just mean that instead of having to enter in the bbcode each time, it would automatically use their settings for the font style they want.

It should definitely be implemented; I'd use it.

^ as would I thank you for explaing what I meant for others to comprehend, You explaied it perfectly. That's what I would use it for, right now i have a myspace extension that is right click and lets me do bbcode, but even that takes too long. It would make it so much easier to have the tags automatically there for everypost.

I'd love to "customize" my font (because I'm geeky like that) but I don't use the "add reply" function (which would make it somewhat faster as opposed to manually typing) but rather the fast reply, as I don't have to have the page load (as if it took long anyway...).

if they want to change it for every post, they should have to type it out every time.

when you start to have to copy and paste things into notepad ot read them, or to highlight everything to read it, you'll get annoyed.

just to have the tags already there just makes it easier so you can have the font how you want it without having to type out all the tags.

Because it makes is a bit more difficult, so not as many people will do it.

In general, I kind of wish we'd get rid of all formatting, save for bold, italic, underline, and size. I kind of get tired of seeing posts with teeny-tiny text formatted in a different font and colored green or pink or some other exotic color. The default text is good enough. The content of the post is where you should express yourself--not the format of the text. Save that for your own website.

The smallest font I've actually seen has been 11px.
Granted, t here's a few subforums I don't view, but I go through most of them, and again, as far as people who customize their text, it's been 11px which is standard size for a view things (input) and whatnot.

yea, it's my sig.

but you see, if i put that actually in my sig, it would be too large and annoying. because i want it that large, i should have to manually upload it every time.

now; this changing text, if youreally want to, type it out everytime. and it affects the readability of your posts.

if you want to see what happens when you let people auto format thier posts, go to the neopets boards. (if they're still the same), you will find over half the posts are unreadable and have to be copied into notepad to be read.

imagine if someone's posts were all like this. would you read their posts? it would be annoying, right? mayhaps you'd copy it into notepad to read, or elephantes. imagine doing that with every post.

First off, this isn't neopets.

Secondly, you just changed that text. It proves that whether or not this default text option is used, text can still be altered to be unreadable, such as your example.

Third, if that image is too large for your regular signature, then DONT use the image period. Why try to "cheat" your signature to add that extra image? It's obviously too large for your regular signature--DONT USE IT.

Lastly, that would be pretty crappy if you upload that same image each time you post. You're soaking up space/bandwidth for each picture you upload, assuming that you don't copy/paste the url.

LOL. All fonts that are listed in the drop down menu, are standard fonts on a PC (not sure about a mac so I'm not even going to include) and would work on ALL browsers. What I quoted isn't even a worry, because it won't be a problem.

tahoma on teh small size is unreadable on firefox.

the point is, if someone wants to change the text every time, make them have to type it out. it's not like the option isn't there. we just don't want to make it too easy. because unreadable posts aren't fun for the reader, so they shouldn't be fun for the writer.

as far as adding a picture at the end instead of my sig- i put it there manually, therefore i should be able to do that without restriction. if i'm lazy, then of course i should be subject to the restrictions.

and see, you can just change the text manually. the point is, not many people do it because people are lazy, thus keeping the boards generally readable.

and how is this not like neopets? we have 12 year olds who'd think tiny unreadable pink font was good.

If you already fulfilled your signature size quota, it would make sense to NOT cheat it and post that image each time.

However, your annoying fake-signature is irrelevent.

I have yet to come across horribly tiny font, and I use firefox.
However, in general, when I come across font that is tiny, I simply adjust my browser so I can read that specific text, then I switch back to the default size, and voila. I just read tiny text without having to complain about it.

Neopets generally has more young and immature audience.
As far as I've seen, people are young, but slightly more mature.
And I have yet to really see ALOT of unreadable text.

Who cares if you can't read annoying colored/size font, maybe it's for the better then.

^ I have no idea why sadolakced acid continues to argue the point that it would add to more to the problem that people would post replys that have hard to read font and color, when already that option is already avalible, So everything that you say is incorrect to what I am suggesting. The only thing that you can actally put into this suggestion; is the point that you do not agree with it and that you are against it.

i think hes saying if we have this option then more people would be doing this because they don't have to go through so much trouble to change their font and whatnot. i dont think its a big deal though. if people want their posts to be read then they will change it if someone says they can't read it or will just realise that its "unreadable" which nothing really can be completely unreadable on here.

fonts on createblog can only be so small. we can make the automatic settings so they only have some colors & some sizes; etc. i don't see any problem with this suggestion..this is in fact the smallest you can get.

fonts on createblog can only be so small. we can make the automatic settings so they only have some colors & some sizes; etc. i don't see any problem with this suggestion..this is in fact the smallest you can get.

that's really weird that all the other fonts on the page are big, while my small one is unreadable..

it's a font that comes with every PC; i don't see why this is happening.

however, cb doesn't even offer that font in it's drop-down menu, so if we made default font settings, that font wouldn't be an option. :]

here's the fonts that are an option:

this is number one.
this is number two.
this is number three.
this is number four.
this is number five.
this is number six.

can you read those?

edit;;
in fact, number 5 and 6 are like, the same thing.

Right because what one person wants, is apparently what should be taken into consideration?

haha.

That only has to do with your resolution that you have on your pc. i forgot which one makes it like that, either 800x600 or 1024x768.. one of them will do that to ONLY TERMINAL ON FONT SIZE 1. I'm almost positive that not everyone will use terminal for their default text. I really don't see the problem that this will cause other than to make it easier to change the font styling. Thankyou for changing up your sig. pinch.gif

of course. and what's wrong with that? it's perfectly reasonable- if you want it, you have to use some effort. this is, of course, comming from someone who used a ghetto sig for a while. you get used to typing it out, so i know it can be done. and if someone wants to, go ahead.

but when there is an option to customize post defaults, every post will be a different color and a diffeerent size and a different font. and some unreadable.

and i will not be the only one complaining then.

(and yes sammi, i can read those. did you set them at size=1 tho?)

Sadly, terminal has never worked on any forum I have posted on.

So I use courier in place of it.. but it still works on my browser for websites and such.

However, the option to customize fonts is available right now, and people really don't use it. It may or may not increase if the option for a default font is given.

The only way to truly find out is to implement it, and test it out for a day/or however long, to see if it would benefit.

Reading that reminds me of my optician asking me what lenses was more clear for me.

Well, at least the "this is one" etc part.

That's because impact isn't a font made for reading. Reasoning being is that it does not flow with other text/letters, which makes it difficult to read. Look at the image example below to understand what I mean.

The curve on a serif font allows the text to flow easily, which leads to being read easily. That's why these fonts are used fot long text components/etc, and generally never for heading and such.

It's a sans serif font which is generally used for headings/ short text components/ captions.

ETA: my desktop publishing course actually paid off.

well, you can read them. point made. there should be no problem with making default post customization.

just font & size & color.

size up to 4.
