In the thread about the sex forum, Fallen_fairy brought up the point of some members, because they went for a long period before beginning to post after they joined, being unable to achieve they requisit 5ppd to become an official member
these people can become very active and dedicated members, but because they have a backlog of Zero post days, they cannot get their' ppd up, even if they do post up to 10 a day, and would clearly have a ppd which meets standars were it not for the long period of inactivity therefore,i think it should be possible for members with over 500 posts who want to become official members, but are unable to due to a low ppd should be able to launch an appeal by PMing an admin with there situation. if they prove themselves a positive part of the site by gaining the endorsement of two members and a moderator, then the yshould have their status changed to Official Member. = ) |

I don't really think that's a good idea. Like Frankie said, they could always make a new account. If your ppd drops lower than 5.0 (which means that you can't be an official member) all you have to do is post some more. It's hard work becoming an official member

I had the same problem after lurking around for quite a while before I had the time to become an active poster... and I think if someone really wants to be an official member, they'll get the endorsements. It's easier than posting their butt off, which obviously leads to spamming, or signing up for a new account and losing all of the 500 or whatever posts they had. I think it's a great idea.

i dont see why its hassle
pm the admin with your endosemnets. they read. they change status. that to me seems easier than having to look through the application thread and check up on xangas to make sure they've joined the blogring and linked... |

I suppose the idea wouldnt be a bad idea if a member and two moderators could vouch for that person activeness to become an offical member and once they get their post count back up again it would be their responsiblity to keep it up. The only problem I can forsee is it would probably cause alot people who just want to use xtracker or something to bombard to people with request to endorse them. Of course a mod would be able to determine right away whether they are really active or not.

It seems like too much trouble.
Especially if it's mostly just for a simple sex forum. |

no, it isnt.
its for the visitor tracker too, plus any added benefits which official members may become entitled to. kiera... i dont think it woul dbe THAT much of a problem... one look at their joining date tells you if they have been at the site long enough to have had the problem, and i think we can trust people to endorse only those who they know are positive members of the site |

i don't think that the whole "endorsement" thing is necessary, since it's just trying to become an official member, not staff member. i think it'd be better if they changed it so that when you join, your ppd is simply at 0, and doesn't go negative or change until you begin to post.

I have confidence in our staff to make good judgements on who should be an offical member or not. I wasnt agruing against that. I was only stating that there will be those members that will bombard people for endorsements when they arent really qualified...they will be disappointed because a staff member will be able to determine their activeness. Note: I dont mean endorsements in like a paragraph (like applying for a staff postion), simply someone who can vouch for that member in question activeness. i didnt mean endorsement as in having to write out a paragraph in the manner of why they should be a member or not, just simply a list of three names. it jus thelps to verify that someone has seen them active... because its a big site, and the individual admin may never have noticed them particularl, and therefore not feel they deserve it
*shrug* your other idea is god in theory, but if one person posts once or twice before they stop returning, theproblem is still as real as ever... nic ein theory, wouldnt work in practice |

this is a BRILLIANT idea...
i registered in the june of 2004 and didnt post until october of 2004 which meant i had 4 months of posts to catch up with... i had about 2000 posts when FINALY my post per day ratio was above 5... i had to psot in 7 pages of introductions forums to get my PPD above 5... lol... if this rule was enforced ack when i was a regular member... it would have been much easier to be an official member... |

^why would we have less people interested? that makes no sense to me.. please explain further.
this is one of the main reasons i made a new account... except then i stopped doing xanga so i had no use for the tools. i like this idea. edit: hmm.. one thing i thought of is won't it be a lot harder for the staff to take away our status? i mean, with the official members now they can just look at their ppd and take away the status if their ppd isn't high enough, but it seems like it would be a pain for them to check these exceptions if this proposition did go into effect. |

I am sure if you went away and your PPD went down and you couldn't get it back up, you wouldn't want to make a new account. Hon, I know you're a camp right now, but you can read this when you get back - I joined in January of '04 and I lurked around until June of '04. I liked my username too damn much to make a new one, so what'd I do? I stayed with it. Sure it took me six months, but I got my ppd up. Seven and it's still going up. If people want the official member status so badly and want to keep their username, then they will work for it.QUOTE(basick @ Jun 16 2005, 2:33 PM) this is a BRILLIANT idea... Hm, some logic you have there.Anyway, I'm not big on the idea of endorsements for the official member status. However, if the minimum post count for the official member status were raised, it'd be great since I'm starting to see too many people trying to get fifty posts in one day for the mere service of the xtracker and then leaving after they get the status (which, they usually don't so they keep spamming). |
