Do you want a flat stomach? Of course, almost everyone does biggrin.gif anyways i found this on a site so wanna post it up here.... the last one is kinda impossible to do 'cause i dont think anyone would rly hire a professional trainer.... well anyways credits go to link
4 tips for a flat stomach:

1. You have to do some type of progressive strength training. The ab muscle is primarily used to flex your torso forward. But there are also muscles that flex your torso to the side and other muscles that rotate it. Often you will see people on their ab roller every day doing lots of sit-ups or crunches.

If you want to effectively strengthen your stomach muscles you need to incorporate these exercises:

* 1-2 forward flexion exercises (sit-up, crunch, etc.)

* 1-2 side flexion exercises (side crunches, side bends, etc.)

* 1-2 rotational exercises (standing twists, trunk rotations, etc.)

Your abs are muscles, and just like any other muscles, they should be exercised at most 3 times per week. You also want to make sure you're training them progressively, which means working them harder each time.

2. Increase metabolism using short, and hard, cardio workouts. Cardio workouts are very important because they can, if done properly, increase your metabolism for up to 24 hours or more!

This means that you're less likely to store any excess calories as body fat simply because they're more likely to be used up by your higher metabolism. Plus, you're more likely to burn off some excess body fat in the process!

Here's a simple interval workout that you can do with just about any activity (bicycling, walking, swimming, etc).

* Warm up at an easy pace for 2-5 minutes

* Perform 30 seconds of hard exercise (almost as hard as possible)

* perform one minute of moderate exercise (recovery time to catch your breath)

* Repeat this process from 6-10 times

* Cool down at an easy pace for 2-5 minutes

3. Maintaining a stable blood sugar level is the key. Most importantly, you have to stabilize your blood sugar level! This is by far the most important factor when it comes to shedding that excess body fat and keeping it off!

To stabilize your blood sugar level you have to feed your body frequently, about every 2-3 hours. The key is to give your body only the amount of food that it needs at that time. Your body burns calories all day long, so why would you only feed it once or twice a day?

Give your body the fuel it needs: fruits, whole grains, vegetables, nuts, berries, and lean proteins (fish, lean beef, chicken, eggs, etc).

Most people pay too much attention to how much fat is in food, or how healthy a meal is. Calories are calories. It doesn’t matter where they come from. If there’s extra it's going to body fat!

I'm not saying that what you eat isn't important because it is. It just doesn’t have all that much of an affect when it comes to losing fat. Make healthy choices whenever possible, but don’t feel like every cheeseburger you eat is guaranteed to be stored as fat.

4. Enlist the help of a professional trainer. Realistically, most people just don’t know enough about their body, nutrition, or effective exercise plans to meet their health and fitness goals.

Ask yourself this question, “Am I happy with my current progress or physical condition?” If the answer is no, then you should consider hiring a qualified personal fitness professional.

Don’t automatically trust the information you get from fitness magazines or from your local health club. A qualified fitness trainer can help you achieve your health and fitness goals, and in less time than you can even imagine.

If you're serious about your health and fitness goals, and you're ready to work for that flat stomach, I recommend you start utilizing the four strategies described above. These four strategies can help you elevate your metabolism and burn off that excess body fat leaving you looking and feeling great!

Sit-ups are bad for your back if you do them on a hard surface, but if you have one of those gymnastics mats, then it's not so bad.

I will be hiring a personal trainer in late July after I get back from NYC. I've been talking to one and he's really great. I need help with putting together a workout schedule that I can stick with and, hopefully, he'll be able to help me with it. Great tips by the way!

i think that's why you do warm ups... at school they make you do crunches also and if it causes damage to your back, they wouldnt make you do it...

You should also incorporate some cardio exercises. The one thing about getting a flat stomache is not about stregthening it, but reducing the fat layer that covers your abs.

So do about 20 minutes of running, three times a week!

actually the damage is that bad. I have a terrible lower back and my physical therepist told me not to do any crunches because they will make the damage worse. If you want to do a crunch like exercise, put a small pillow under your back, lay down with your hands to your sides, flex your toes (dont point) and raise them about 3 inches off the ground and hold for 15 seconds. Then relax and repeat. That'll help.

this baffles me. sooo many people think that if you do ab workouts, you magically get a six pack. WRONG. most people have 6 packs, it's just that they're body fat % is too high so that they abs don't show. cardio is vital in order to shed the fat and make your abs visible, but so is working out. and the best way to work out is high weights, low reps. yes, that goes for girls as well. girls won't get HUGE now matter how much they work out. they don't have the testosterone that drives males.

this article can be summarized like this:
1) eat right
2) work out
3) do some sort of cardio on the days you don't life weights (run, bike, sports, etc)
4) get a work out partner! they help you stay motivated

^ I'm having a blast with my trainer. He's awesome, and I've been working out harder than ever before. Spot training is "out", doing cardio and total body workouts are "in". You don't need to spend $$$ for a trainer when you can do cardio and strength training on your own. I only got one because I need motivation, support, and nutrition help.

burned off 2500 calories just from playing ITG. i think ddr is a great alternative to running and other cardio exercises. combining that with a healthy diet, i've heard tales of people losing as much as 95 lbs...and im sure stomach-flattening was involved.

the best way to get a flat stomach is work out daily.
at least 40 sit-ups a day and run
also eat more fiber and no junk food.

I always had to cut weight for wrestling and my stomach is pretty flat.

I always thought the best way for a flat stomach was to eat every 3 hours _unsure.gif and not touch a single piece of food til those 3 hours pass.

I think eating 5 small meals a day is good.. and it depends what food you eat.. if your eating junk food, of course it aint going to work and good body takes work out too not just eating right.

Haha. I'm fine the way I am, and even if I wasn't, I wouldn't pay for a professional trainer because I'm too darn broke.

Haha, too bad I'm not old enough to get a personal trainer or be allowed to work out at the gym by myself o.o

FYI I'm 13, and I have to be 14 to get a gym membership card.

Still, I try to work out a lot, but it doesn't really work. FOOD IS MY WEAKNESS :P
