Yeah...talk about how much you love band here! =)

EDIT// I go to Burnaby North Secondary and I'm a flute player in our Intermediate band. Next year I'll be in Senior and I'll get to go to CUBA! Woot! Our band went to the regionals and got a 95 gold, and went to the nationals and received a silver grade. Yeah. And we also have a half-assed marching band.

^ Um, because it's a general rule to create a new topic every 500 replies? Mind you, the other topic had well over 500 replies.

Please, don't pretend like you know everything.

[geek]Uh, hi, my name is Eve, and I play the flute and Piedmont Hills High concert band. And, I love playing the flute. Even though I suck at it, the shiny silver metal attracts me to it..

BAND IS AWESOME. [/geek]

there's so much predjudice against band kids at the school i'm going to. i just didn't want to deal with it. and i really don't like the teacher either. also, none of my friends were going to continue and i'm going to be swamped with homework from AP and such. i'm doing sports, model UN, and some other stuff too. so i guess i basically just didn't want to deal with it.

Prejudice against band kids? Aw, that really sucks. At our school no one gives a crap about who you are or what you belong to, as long as you don't annoy them or get on their nerves on purpose. And it's too bad you don't like the teacher, because I find the teacher makes all the difference.

In grade 8 I had a crappy novice band director who didn't know how to control the class, oh God, I hated that class. This year the band director who taught at our school prior to the weird novice teacher in ugly sandals for 13 years came back, and he's...like...wow. I love this guy. He's the best, honestly.

Pieces we learned? Hmm..I would have to say the Coca Cola song was awesome..and La Pantera..and Great Balls of Fire..and the HEY song...and all those band songs that we played whenever there was a pep rally. Haha. :feels geeky:

wow, i let this topic get away from me

i was talking to a girl on mbp, and she said she thought her band director was going to be our new assistant. we talked about it, and all the facts lned up, so it 99.9% is, which is cool for me that i know someone who had him, but bad for her since she liked him and he's leaving.

and william, you high school has a lot of issues. did you ever consider switching? yeah, you might have to move and make new friends, but if you could, it would probably be worth it to avoid all the predudice and cliques

Oh, what...this is indeed my thread. I am quite the band geek.
I just graduated from high school and I am now starting up college. Guessss what major I have decided to pursue? *grins* Music education, yo.
I play clarinet, and not to toot my own horn-- sorry for the pun-- but I'm rather good. I was section leader for two years and was first chair since my sophomore year in high school. I also did the orchestra thing my senior year, and I enjoyed it as well. I loooove marching band, but I really shine in concert band and orchestra. That's where all the music really is, see? ;)

Actually, I'm the same. I know, I know...it's just, I'm about to go to college as a music major, so I wanted a bit of a break before I had to live on my clarinet for the next five or so years.
How long have you played it?

well, i took mine into be cleaned after the cncert the week before school ended, and still haven't gotten it back, so it wasn't a choice for me. i really need to stay practiced. music will ever get me anywhere in life, so i should at least get to the top band at my school before i graduate

i've been playing for about 5 years, give or take

To be honest, I hated clarinet for the longest time. I appreciate it now, but because I wasn't in love with it the first few years, I learned to also appreciate the other instruments.

then I was guilted to stay and they said I would rock
so I was going to quit 8th grade, definately.
NOT, they said I would be the perfect marcher, I was a pure natural, held my horn up, played loud, could walk and play at the same time, ect.
So, I decided to check it out. One more year, my freshman year. If I wasn't satisfied, I was gone.

I loved it, I got a cool nickname "The Hotness" for being one of the best marchers, topping the freshman easily and beating out some of the upper classmen (top 5 out of about 130). I liked how I had some band friends and I improved my playing faster than ever.

It was awesome, and I am now a band geek for it.

Courtney, clarinet, Elkins HS. I'm a sophomore, and I like marching season sooo much better than concert season.

Totally! We always break out random solos during a stand tune, like taking thingsup octaves and stuff. When I was a n00b I just did hey song up an octave at the end. I might actually do a moving solo if I can get my music theory right.

we never talk to the other band

they're usually scared to come see us
and are like amazed at our awesome fieldshow
and beautiful sound...[lol]

well the only band we're social with is Walnut [the other hs in our district]

our band is at the end zone...and the visiting band is at the visitor stands
so like there isn't much buddy buddy thing going on

We're nice to all the other bands and feel good to socialize between competitors. Only one band ticks us off, and we aren't necessarily bitter toward them, they are just really conceded/ snobby.

But we coo, we coo.

Oh my-- I didn't know we were the only ones who danced. We made of dances to everything, even while we were playing. T'was fun, yes.
Hmm, did anybody do the: "Hey band...." "Whaat?" "This is so-in-so, and she's the drum major!" "YAY." We did that everygame and I loved it since I was section leader, which meant I got to introduce somebody too. YAY.

Speaking of tuba dances...I have secret aspirations of marching tuba in college. I know I don't look like your stereotypical tuba player, but gosh, they have sooo much fun. Plus, most of the guys who play tuba at the college I'm attending are hot. Hot band guys pwn, yo.

i know a female tuba! we stole her band director. she played clarinet first too, actually

no, we're not very spirited. we're band geeky, but none of us care enough about the school to cheer for it. also, most people, like me, object to cheers, so even when we do the drum cheers, the whole band rarely participates unless forced.

did you ever do the "we got spirit yes we do/ we got spirit HOW BOUT YOU?" to the other band? we usually don't get into it enough to "win" but when we start it and the band doesn't or barely responds, we get passionately into it and go completely overboard *evil grin*

Ohh I see. For us, our district won't give us much money, our band dept. is in debt, so we can't spend $ on buses for games that we aren't required to go ermm.gif

ohh, that sucks _dry.gif they won't pay for us to go to basketball games, but bands are expected for football. once we had a game an hour and a half away, we got lost and got there late and we never even got to march and then we got lost on the way back so it took over 2 hours to get back. we were not amused.

yeah... i'm kinda new to this...

i play tenor saxaphone and it is flippin' sweet!! (im a sophmore this year!! whoo!)

anyway... umm.. I march tenor, in concert i play oboe... i have also tried the clarinet and sorta trombone (lol... trading instruments can be fun!)

any way... for last year's marching show we did The Who, including Baba O'Reily, Behind Blue Eyes (not Limp Bizcut, aka sucky version... the good one!!) and The Real Me/ Quadrophenia... um.. in concert we did Into the storm and a bunch of random ones...

I'd have to say the the best song i ever did was HIGH WATER MARK: THE THIRD DAY... awesomeness!!

so yeah... and at my school we seem to get a lot of crap for being in band.. our football team sucks out loud (www.xanga.com/hanf_is_watching <- the profile picture!) so i think thats a major reason we're so hated... it's like, "ew, band geeks, you're all gay because you don't take naked showers together and loose by 49 points on a weekly basis"

it can be kinda harsh, but we basically stick together.

oh yeah!! we (me and a friend) made an xanga just for our band and good amount of people have been participating... (the link above... "hanf" is our director) i thinks it's not a bad idea, maybe try it?

i hate the clarinet. i can appreciate pretty much every other instrument except the damned piccolo pinch.gif
*

I have to play piccolo for marching season pinch.gif . Not enough flute players =(. I'm going to need a lotttt of breath.

Anyway...I'm back from my trip, so that means...I barely picked up my flute or my piccolo (same thing -_-). I need to practice!!

I go to Sierra Vista High, and we're just a small band...that made finals at BoA (I'll never forget that) and it doesn't matter whether we're good or not, because I love it the way it is. Young (4 years going on 5) with lots of room to learn, and it's actually possible to know everyone's name, though we're getting from about 90 to about 120...so it's a hugeee jump needless to say. Unfortunately, only a few are flute players =/. I can't boss that many freshmen around XD.

I'm a sophomore section leader (wooooo!) along with a senior section leader next year (which is like a month later O_o). I was third chair during concert season and I was third chair in 8th grade too =0. So many darn good flute players, it makes me want to play something else...because it's hard to shine (get it? =P). Oh well! I'm proud and I can say I'm pretty good, especially since I only played for 3 years.

I love BOTH marching and concert season. Marching season is exciting, hardworking, and band members seem to be sooo much closer during this short period of time. There are trips and I don't exactly enjoy football games, but it's another chance to see my friends againn!!! Concert season is more about music and intonation etc., something I love also! And I get to see my two wonderful and great flute players, one in percussion and one in colorguard during marching season.

We're splitting into two bands (finally!!) and I'm definitely going to be in the top band. It's just a matter of being first second flute or second first flute (do you guys get what I mean? O_o). I'm definitely not playing piccolo during concert season, because I like flute music way more, and I can actually sound musical instead of loud -_-.

Anyway...I spend a lot of time in the band room, and it's like I live in it. I am a band geek...(kinda =P) and I'm proud _smile.gif

we only march piccolos, no flutes. theyre just louder, i suppose. last year 3 people broke their piccolos in one day and had to play flutes during a competition. gilbert was not amused. fortunately, we won anyway

well, we had 140 last year and i knew everyone's name, so it's always possible. people don't always know my name, though

but it sounds like band is going well for you, which is cool. i wonder how our drumline and guard are coming along...

We're still small enough to manage having flutes on the field.

What I meant was that pretty much everyone knows everyone, with less of a cliche group. It's easier when it's smaller.

I go to the band room before school and in one lunch, because the other lunch, I only get to see my friend once (and most of my band friends have the other lunch that day -_-). I can't go after school either, to catch the bus, but I would go every chance I get.

throb.gif band camp

such bittersweet feelings. i can't believe i have only one more left.

it was a remarkably dramafree week until last night at the dance. i called it. there were a lot of ups and downs, but last night made it all grand. don't know why; i don't dance of partake in immature drama, but i don't know. but i definitely remember i love band again. there's a lot of problems, and tiresome things, but it's good anyway. i don't know. so many mixed feelings and i'm rambling. so i'll stop. i'd go into specifics, but they wouldn't mean anything to anyone else. but wow. just wow. i don't know what wow is at, but nevermind that
